Federico Chiesa has been given an immediate way to leave Liverpool and end his disappointing spell at the club.

The 27-year-old is well down the pecking order under Arne Slot, after the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak made the move to Anfield.

Chiesa was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad and has been limited to sporadic minutes off the bench in the Premier League.

The Italian did score a vital late goal in the Reds’ 4-2 win over Bournemouth on the opening day of the season, but has made just three substitute appearances since then.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that there is still time for Chiesa to complete a move to the Saudi Pro League, with their transfer window open until 23 September.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that something must have gone on behind the scenes in terms of Chiesa and Liverpool, and that it is surprising that it hasn’t worked out for the attacker.

Back in 2021, the Italy international was one of the most exciting young players in the world, but since suffering an ACL injury in 2022, he has failed to rediscover his best form.

Wyness added that Chiesa could end his time at Liverpool immediately by moving to Saudi Arabia, who still have just under a week left until their transfer deadline.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Look, there’s still time left in the Saudi transfer window, we’ve got just under another week to go.

So, possibly Chiesa could move down there.

Liverpool have got a reputation for being very thorough on all their checks and everything about this.

“I think he’ll be moving on because he just seems unhappy.

But something seems to have happened, and I’m sure it will come out in due course.”

Meanwhile, Arne Slot will now rotate between Andy Robertson and Milos Kerkez after the Hungarian’s difficult start to life at Liverpool, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Bournemouth defender has started all four of the Reds’ Premier League games so far this season.

However, Kerkez was substituted in the first half against Burnley after being shown an early yellow card for simulation.

Sources say that the 21-year-old will now be rotated with Robertson more regularly, as Slot looks to solidify the left-hand side of his defence.
