Liverpool have now seen three senior players depart their pre-season training camp in the Far East.

The Bavarians agreed a deal worth up to £65.5m with Liverpool, with the forward having undergone a medical ahead of completing his exit.

However, the trio are not the only senior players who are not with the Liverpool first team squad in Asia.

Eyebrows were raised when it emerged that Federico Chiesa had been left out of the travelling squad due to a ‘minor issue’, just hours after scoring in the Reds’ behind-closed-doors friendly win over Stoke City.

The Italy international found himself limited to a bit-part role during his first season on Merseyside, after signing from Juventus in an initial £10m move last August.

Making just 14 appearances, his only start in the Premier League came away at Brighton & Hove Albion in the penultimate game of the campaign after Liverpool had already clinched the title.

Chiesa has consistently been linked with a premature Reds exit as a result with both current Italy manager, Gennaro Gattuso, and his predecessor, Luciano Spalletti, insisting the forward needs to be playing regularly if he wishes to earn an international recall.

Following the end of last season, Chiesa himself admitted he was happy to stay put at Anfield.

However, he also revealed he was also interested in the possibility of a return to Serie A.

And former Juventus striker Luca Toni has now urged his old club to re-sign Chiesa - but only on a temporary basis.

“If I were Juventus, I'd bring Chiesa back on loan,” the World Cup winner told La Gazetto della Sport.

“He's out of the Liverpool project, so I'd bet on his desire to redeem himself."

Chiesa was ultimately forced out of Juventus last summer, having found himself frozen out by new manager Thiago Motta.

Yet the forward admitted he had never wanted to leave the club but was left with no choice.

“Motta was clear with me: I don't need you, find a team,” he recalled to Corriere dello Sport.

I still love the club and the fans.”

Only time will tell if such a return to Juventus could become a reality, though it is debatable whether Liverpool would action sanction a loan exit.

But the Serie A giants are one of a number of clubs who have been touted as possible suitors for the out-of-favour forward, along with Napoli, AS Roma, AC Milan, Atalanta, Como and Atletico Madrid.

The Reds concluded their pre-season tour of Asia on Wednesday (July 30) when they beat Yokohama F.
