Defending the title makes pre-season vitally important to ensure Arne Slot is fully satisfied with his new-look team, with players like Jeremie Frimpong ready to get their Liverpool careers underway.

As for others, it is a chance to prove themselves and show why they should be in the team week in, week out, with Federico Chiesa a player that can do just that.

The Italian has struggled for game time and has frequently been linked with a move away from Liverpool, although he might be set for one final chance.

The 27-year-old was a gamble when Liverpool bought him from Juventus in August 2024 due to his persistent injuries, and it is a gamble that is yet to pay off.

Despite costing just £12.5m, he still has not shown why Liverpool have paid the money for him, but journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed on the Market Madness podcast that he might be given one last shot to make it at Liverpool.

“Yeah, the rumours keep persisting.

It hasn’t worked out perfectly for Chiesa.

My understanding is that it’s more likely that we’ll get a pre-season for Chiesa at Liverpool and then a decision will be made,” Jacobs said.

“Were he to leave, Serie A remains his most likely destination, a return there would be his preference.”

With a summer overhaul expected in attack for the Reds, Chiesa should get more chances than he got this season, but he will really have to impress the boss during pre-season.

Surprisingly, Chiesa still has plenty of potential suitors despite featuring just six times in the league for Liverpool this season.

A return to Italy is where the interest comes from, with AC Milan rumoured to want Chiesa, while the player himself hinted at a potential return to Juventus.

However, a loan move appears the most likely if he fails to impress Slot during pre-season, with Liverpool fans hoping he can rekindle some of the form he showed during Italy’s European Championships win.

Incredibly loved on the red half of Merseyside as his song can be heard ringing around Anfield, fans will be hoping that Chiesa does capitalise on his last chance or else it could be a short but sweet Liverpool career for the Italian.
