Despite Liverpool winning the Premier League season, some individual needs have not been met this season and that is something to keep a key eye on this summer.

Arne Slot has been blessed with the privilege of choosing a similar starting eleven for the majority of the season, leaving the players on the periphery of that first team struggling to get any minutes.

Federico Chiesa is one of those players.

Limited to only 14 appearances across all competitions this season and racking up just 466 minutes of football, it appears that he now feel he will be more needed elsewhere.

Fabrizio Romano has lifted the lid on Federico Chiesa’s situation at Liverpool.

The update reads: “Understand Federico Chiesa’s priority for this summer transfer window is to return to Italy.”

“Chiesa loves Liverpool but limited game time an issue and Italian clubs started contacts to be informed on potential deal conditions.”

He is clearly a loved member of the dressing room but not a key part of Arne Slot’s plans, and that has seemingly forced Chiesa to make a decision about his future.

Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen is on the verge of joining the club and that will only lessen Chiesa’s chances of regular playing time further.

Federico Chiesa explained his desire to stay at Liverpool, but understands a move away could make the most sense for him.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, he said: “The desire to play was there, but I put it aside.

I wouldn’t mind staying in Liverpool at all.”
