Federico Chiesa has reportedly snubbed the chance to link up with Jose Mourinho next season as an exit from Liverpool looks to be in the pipeline.

The Italian has only been with the Reds for just under a year, having signed from Juventus last August, but already looks to be on his way out of the club after a disappointing season.

Chiesa made just 14 appearances across all competitions, only four of which came from the start.

The winger was left out of the Reds’ squad for the tour to Asia - a squad that included Luis Diaz despite the Colombian closing in on a move to Bayern Munich - after picking up yet another injury.

Reports also indicated that Chiesa would be working toward a move away from Liverpool after being left behind, with the 27-year-old looking to secure more playing time.

He has been strongly linked with a return to Italy, although other options appear to be open to him.

Chiesa though is set to snub both of those options in favor of a move back to Serie A, having made it clear he would prefer a return to his homeland.

Atalanta, Roma, Napoli and AC Milan have all been linked, with Liverpool aiming to at least recoup the $17 million it spent on him last summer.

Despite seemingly edging toward an exit from Anfield, Chiesa has already indicated he wouldn’t be against staying put on Merseyside next season.

“The year is over, but it's an experience I would do again,” Chiesa told Corriere dello Sport last month
