It’s never easy seeing a talented player struggle for minutes.
Federico Chiesa arrived at Liverpool with high expectations.
Fans hoped to see the Italian’s speed and creativity bring something different to the attack.
But the season didn’t go as planned.
Chiesa often found himself on the bench, watching games from the sidelines.
It’s a frustrating position for any player, especially one of his quality.
Naturally, speculation followed.
When a player like Chiesa isn’t playing regularly, interest from other clubs begins to grow.
And that’s exactly what has happened.
A club from outside Europe’s top five leagues has entered the picture.
Turkish side Besiktas are the club pushing hardest for Chiesa.
The team, now coached by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, finished fourth in the Super Lig.
They ended the season 33 points behind champions Galatasaray.
The board is planning a big transfer window to close the gap.
As part of those plans, Besiktas are reportedly targeting both Chiesa and Napoli midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.
According to Calciomercato.it, “In this regard, the information collected by Calciomercato.it confirms the interest of the team coached by Solskjaer.”
“Contrary to what was reported by some Turkish media, however, there are no offers that were later rejected for either Chiesa or Anguissa.”
“If on the one hand Slot is willing to sell the Italian offensive winger to raise money and replace him with Wirtz, on the other hand the confirmation of Conte on the bench could have changed the fate of the African midfielder.”
“However, no official proposal has yet been delivered to the Reds or the Neapolitans.”
“The negotiations could get to the heart of the matter later.”
Instead, it’s still in the early stages.
“To date, Besiktas have not gone beyond the exploratory survey with Liverpool… to understand if there is the will on the part of the two clubs to sell their respective players.”
From Liverpool’s side, new manager Arne Slot is reportedly “willing to sell the Italian offensive winger to raise money and replace him with Wirtz.”
However, Chiesa is said to prefer a return to Italy over a move to Turkey.
So for now, it’s a waiting game.
But Chiesa’s future at Anfield is clearly uncertain.
