An update has emerged on Federico Chiesa's future at Liverpool amid continued speculation that he could leave the club.

Liverpool signed Chiesa from Juventus last summer after paying an initial £10million fee with add-ons potentially taking the total package for the transfer up to £12.5million.

Since then, the Italy international has made just 14 appearances for the Reds but still managed to earn a Premier League winners' medal last term for his role in the title triumph.



This summer has seen increased speculation that Chiesa could leave Anfield before the September 1 deadline.

A return to Italy has been mentioned on the rumour mill, and the latest update suggests that it could still be a possibility.

The Mirror have reported that Atalanta are showing an interest in signing Chiesa this summer.

However, it has been suggested that Atalanta will only pursue a deal for the forward if they were to sanction the exit of one of their own stars.

Ademola Lookman has also been heavily linked with a move this summer, with the Premier League tipped as a potential destination.

It seems, though, that Lookman is destined to remain in Italy as Champions League finalists Inter Milan look to complete a deal for the former Everton man.

If Inter were to sign Lookman, the report claims that Atalanta would then swoop in to try and sign Chiesa from Liverpool.

Speculation around Chiesa's future intensified earlier this month when he did not travel with the rest of the Liverpool squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

The reason for the absence was stated as a "minor issue", even though he had only scored in a friendly match against Stoke City a day earlier.

Coupled with the arrival of Hugo Ekitike and potential signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle, it seems that Chiesa's time at Anfield could be coming to an end in the near future.

Whether that will see Chiesa sign for Atalanta or another club remains to be seen.

But there seems to be increased speculation that a move may be on the cards fairly soon, and with the deadline in just five weeks time and the new season fast approaching, it makes sense for all parties to get a deal wrapped up as soon as possible, if one were to happen.
