Liverpool icon Fernando Torres has shared his sadness at the passing of Diogo Jota.
Jota was killed in a car accident, along with his brother and fellow professional footballer, Andre Silva, in the early hours of Thursday morning (July 3).
It's been reported that the accident, on the A52 known as Palacios de Sanabria, near the city of Zamora, was the result of a blown-out tyre which led to their vehicle veering off the road.
The brothers had been travelling in the Zamora region of Sanabri, making their way toward a ferry that was bound for the UK ahead of a return to pre-season training.

The bodies of both footballers were returned to their native Portugal on Thursday evening and a wake is scheduled in Gondomar, a district of Porto, on Friday (July 4) ahead of a funeral service at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar (the Mother Church of Gondomar) on Saturday (July 5).
Torres briefly played alongside Jota at Atletico Madrid, with the latter agreeing to sign for the Spanish club in March 2016 before being loaned to FC Porto at the end of August.
Following his return to Atletico, Jota later signed for Wolves on loan at the end of July 2017, but still trained alongside Torres during their shared time with the La Liga outfit.

Following Jota’s death, Torres took to Instagram to pay tribute to the Reds forward.
Sharing Liverpool’s own post confirming the Portuguese’s passing on his story, the Spaniard wrote: “Deeply saddened, RIP Diogo and Andre”.
Torres had previously recalled his early memories of Jota when returning to Merseyside to take part in the LFC Foundation’s annual Legends match against Ajax in 2024.
“I remember when Diogo came,” Torres told the club at the time.
I’m really happy for him, how he’s doing now in his time in England.
“Moving to Liverpool was a big step for him.
I remember that small period of time we played together and I’m so proud of what he did after that because it’s not easy to come to Atletico and leave on loan, and you have to prove yourself in different places.”
