Jarell Quansah is closing in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
An unlikely relationship has been struck up this summer between the Bundesliga side and Liverpool, as Liverpool have already snapped up two of their star men in Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.
Now, it appears that Liverpool are doing Leverkusen a favour, by offloading the 22-year-old Jarell Quansah to them.
It was reported earlier this week by Sky Germany that a deal had been agreed on personal terms for Jarell Quansah to move to the Bundesliga side.
Progress was quickly made over the deal, as Quansah clearly views it as the correct next step in his career, as he has failed to make a lasting impression on Arne Slot during the Dutchman’s debut season in charge of the Reds.
It did start brightly for Quansah under his new manager, earning him a start in Liverpool’ first Premier League match of the season, but after a worrying opening 45 minutes, Quansah was hooked at the break, and the English centre-back did not pick up another Premier League start until May once the Premier League title was already secured.
A promising young talent for sure, but clearly someone who Slot doesn’t see in the immediate future of the club, and final details for his move away are now being finalized.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on it today.
“Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are in contact to ger Jarell Quansah deal done with final details being sorted.”
“£30m plus add-ons package now being discussed after agreement done on player side.”
Despite being on international duty with England for the U21 European Championship, Quansah was quick to approve the move and now the clubs are agreeing a deal.
Jarell Quansah moved up through every level of Liverpool’s academy and broke into the first team under Jurgen Klopp, a proud moment for the youngster.
He impressed during the German’s last season in charge, but his future now appears to lie elsewhere after Arne Slot’ decision.
