The end of the transfer window is racing into view and Fulham are still scrambling to make key signings.

The Cottagers have made just one signing so far this summer, bringing goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte from Montpellier for a nominal fee to back up Bernd Leno.

That means Marco Silva remains without a significant addition to his squad, and the Portuguese tactician has not been quiet in his criticism of the club in that regard.

“How we should feel as a club – At this stage of last season, we had two-three players in.

This season, we had a plan, the plan has fallen through.

We’re still working to correct things we haven’t done in the last three months.

“I cannot tell you that someone is going to arrive tomorrow or in two days’ time because I’m not sure and, to be honest, I have big doubts that it’s going to happen.

We need another midfielder.”

It sounds very much like Silva – who seems to be considering his future – is eager to get some bodies through the door, but who are Fulham going for?

Brazilian forward Kevin appears to be Fulham’s top target going into the final sprint of the summer, with BBC reporting (13 August) that the Cottagers are willing to break their transfer record to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 23-year-old winger – who was a regular for Brazil at youth level – has made an excellent start to the new campaign, notching four goals and two assists in three Europa League qualifying appearances.

That takes his total for Shakhtar to 16 goals and 10 assists in 56 appearances since joining from Palmeiras in January 2024.

Kevin’s form has helped Shakhtar lift a league title and two domestic cups in Ukraine, and while the Premier League will be a big step up, he’s showing all the signs that he’s capable of making the transition.

Reiss Nelson is a very familiar name now for Fulham fans after the winger spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage from Arsenal.

The former England youth international notched two goals and an assist in 12 appearances across all competitions, but saw his progress in West London cut short by a severe hamstring injury.

Nevertheless, Silva and his staff were still impressed by what they saw, and an interest remains, though Nelson’s potential return to Fulham could hinge on the outcome of the Kevin saga.

Raheem Sterling struggled on loan at Arsenal, but he remains a tantalising prospect for plenty of Premier League clubs, given his 396 games and 123 goals of experience in the competition to date.

Chelsea could be willing to sanction a loan for Sterling this summer as they seek to get some of his wages off the books, and that has attracted the attention of three London clubs.

Fulham are interested in Sterling, but look set to face competition from West Ham and Crystal Palace — the latter having a desperate need for attacking reinforcements after losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

Rodrigo Muniz has been linked away from Fulham all summer, but the striker now looks set to stay at Craven Cottage with new contract talks underway.

However, beyond the Brazilian, Silva only has a 34-year-old Raul Jimenez at his disposal in the No.9 spot, and another striker remains on the cards.

Out-of-favour Man United star Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as a shock target, though Fulham face a battle to sign the Denmark international, with Serie A champions Napoli the frontrunners for his signature.

In case you hadn’t already noticed, it’s in attack where Silva primarily wants to strengthen.

Another winger Fulham are pushing for is Samuel Chukwueze who, despite enjoying a solid record of five goals and three assists in 36 appearances last season, has fallen down the pecking order at AC Milan.

Chukwueze was an unused substitute in Milan’s 2-0 Coppa Italia win over Bari on Sunday, and Calciomercato report that Fulham are pushing to loan the winger with an option to buy, which could become an obligation under certain conditions.

The 26-year-old — who still has three years remaining on his contract — arrived at the San Siro from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 and has eight goals and six assists to his name in 69 appearances for Milan to date.
