The 2023/24 season has been one full of both ups and downs for Liverpool.

The Reds find themselves among the title chasers and have been fairly untouchable over the season.

However, in recent weeks, it feels as if the side have stopped playing to the best of their abilities.

This downward spiral of form has seemed to mainly occur after the most recent international break.

Upon their return, Liverpool, who were in a leading position for the Premier League title have now dropped to third place.

The Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup by their arch-rivals, Manchester United and also dropped points to the Red Devils in the top flight.

However, despite performing below-par for both games, perhaps their worst performances of their rut came in the last week.

Jurgen Klopp’s men managed to lose 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League and then, on Sunday, lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace.

Bear in mind that the last time The Eagles won an away tie in the Premier League was against Burnley in November.

This statistic alone outlines how poor the Reds have been over the last month or so.

As the 2023/24 season is the last of Jurgen Klopp’s as the manager of Liverpool, many expected him to be given a ‘fairy-tale’ exit.

Which, at the halfway point of the campaign, seemed like it was going to become a reality.

However, as outlined, it feels as if the Reds have lost their ‘bite’ and the prospect of ending the season with just the Carabao Cup is becoming more and more of a reality.

This means that when the new manager comes in, it’s likely that they will be looking to make a couple of additions.

Willian Pacho is a name which many fans and pundits who don’t follow the Bundesliga likely won’t have heard of.

The 22-year-old currently plys his trade for Eintracht Frankfurt as a centre-back.

Across the 39 games which he has played in all competitions, he has even managed to make an assist.

The Reds have previously been linked with the defender but have now ‘inquired’ about him.

If he is to leave the German side in summer, a fee worth between £42m and £51m is rumoured to be the amount which would be accepted.

To many, this feels like an extortionate amount of money for the youngster, however, to Frankfurt, it seems that this is the price he’s is worth.

Liverpool’s defence has been something of a problem area this term.

Versatile.

Although the former Charlton man has done a stellar job, the addition of one or two defenders would only benefit Liverpool and the incoming manager.

However, it’s unlikely that any deals will be made until the new manager has been announced and got a feel for the squad.
