Liverpool are on the verge of completing a British-record €150 million (£126.4 million) transfer for Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz, although there have been conflicting reports on whether the two clubs have agreed verbally over the transfer.

The 22-year-old expected to undergo a medical imminently.

The deal, which includes performance-based add-ons, will shatter the Premier League’s previous transfer record held by Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo (£115m) and marks Liverpool’s most ambitious move in the Arne Slot era.

Wirtz, who scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists for Leverkusen in the 2024/25 season, has agreed to a five-year contract running until 2030 according to reports.

Recent contract renewals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have solidified their positions as the club’s highest-paid stars:

According to BILD, Wirtz is set to earn £340,000–£355,000 per week at Liverpool, nearly tripling his Leverkusen salary.

This places him third in the squad’s wage hierarchy, just below Van Dijk and significantly ahead of fellow new signing Jeremie Frimpong (£120,000/week).
