Liverpool completed the signing of Germany playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record £116m.
The 22-year-old penned a long-term deal with the Reds, which will keep him on Merseyside until at least 2030.
The deal includes a guaranteed £100m and a further £16m in add-ons, topping Liverpool’s previous club record signing of Virgil van Dijk for £75m from Southampton in 2018.
If those add-ons are achieved, Wirtz’s move to Anfield would become a British transfer record to beat the £107m Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
Wirtz scored 57 goals in 197 appearances during his time at Leverkusen.
The Germany international played an instrumental role as Leverkusen won their first-ever Bundesliga title – becoming the first team to complete an entire Bundesliga season without defeat after a remarkable 2023/24 campaign.
Florian Wirtz claims that his hefty price tag won’t weigh him down at Liverpool.
“I just want to play football and how much money the clubs pay between each other, it doesn’t matter,” he said to reporters in the mixed zone after the pre-season friendly with Athletic Club.
“I came because I thought I could fit in this team and I am enjoying to stay with these players?
I am a player who needs freedom on the pitch and the manager gives it to me.
“I will try to find the right places to be and the right spaces to get on the ball and to be dangerous and create chances.”
On the Premier League, he added: “They tell me it’s more intense and more physical and that every player is really strong, really fast.
“I am really looking forward to play there and experience some differences to Germany but I think there is also something I can learn and make me better.
“It is good that we have a few players that arrive at the same time so we can connect and talk to each other about how we deal with things That helps when you come to a new team.
“The big challenge is to win the title again and it is the most difficult thing to do.
“I will just try to create chances and work hard off the ball and run a lot to help make the team better.”
