Liverpool are poised to complete a club-record transfer for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz this week.
The Reds have fended off competition from Bayern Munich and Manchester City to secure the services of the German international, and it appears they are getting a player with an unrelenting drive to succeed.
One of Wirtz's former coaches has opened up on the youngster's fierce determination, which has been evident since his early days in football.
Martin Heck, who worked with Wirtz in the youth setup at Koln in Germany, recalled an incident where the midfielder refused to speak to him for a week after he attempted to limit his playing time following an injury.
“It was clear that he [Wirtz] would only play 50 minutes and I told him weeks before: ‘Flo, your first game back will be in Bochum, but you will only play 50 minutes’," Heck told The Athletic.
