Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Florian Wirtz to Liverpool is a done deal.
Over the course of the last three weeks or so, Liverpool fans have been inundated by several reports about Wirtz.
The German international emerged as a Liverpool target, almost out of the Blues, as it was thought he was Bayern Munich or Real Madrid bound.
Manchester City were also tentatively linked, so when reports emerged around last month that he had travelled to England with his parents, who also happen to be his representatives, it was thought he arrived to meet with Man City.
However, soon after reports emerged that he had indeed travelled to the UK, it was reported in Germany that his arrival in the UK was not to meet with Pep Guardiola’s side but with Liverpool’s representatives.
The 22-year-old reportedly spoke with Arne Slot in that meeting, and a conversation with the Liverpool boss convinced him to choose a move to Anfield over going to Bayern Munich.
So, as it stands, Wirtz has said yes to Liverpool and is keen on joining, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is 100% done.
On Tuesday, the journalist announced that “Liverpool verbally agree deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for package reaching €150m add-ons included,” adding that the “player side already agreed two weeks ago with move now imminent” and that “Wirtz set for medical and contract signing”.
His claim was seemingly contradicted by David Ornstein, who revealed that there was “no agreement yet” between the clubs, despite acknowledging that Liverpool and Leverkusen were in the “final stages” of negotiations.
The primary disagreement appears to centre not on whether a deal will happen, but on the current status of negotiations.
However, Romano has once again reiterated his earlier stance on the transfer, revealing that the agreement between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen is done.
The journalist went on to explain why, despite an agreement, there is no announcement on the transfer.
“I want to explain that Florian Wirtz is on holiday,” he said.
“But I told you two days ago (Tuesday) that the agreement is done.
I can confirm that the agreement is done.
You can consider Wirtz as a Liverpool player?
So that’s my understanding.
“Then we wait for Wirtz to return from his holidays to undergo the medical test and complete his transfer.
“But the agreement, club to club is okay.”
With the transfer window currently closed until June 16 due to FIFA Club World Cup regulations, both clubs have additional time to finalize the complex arrangement.
This breathing space should help resolve the remaining structural disagreements that have prevented full agreement.
