Liverpool is close to finalising the deal to sign Florian Wirtz, according to the latest report from reliable German publication Kicker.
The past few weeks has been full of Wirtz and Liverpool news.
Since the Reds’ interest was first mentioned, it has been one update after another.
By now, it is clear that Arne Slot’s side wants Wirtz, and the player is also keen on moving to Anfield.
Earlier this week, it was reported that he has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, with the Reds escalting their interest in the 22-year-old by submitting two mega bids.
But complexities in the payment structure mean that the two clubs have remained locked in talks.
Leverkusen aim to extract maximum value for their 22-year-old talisman, and rightfully so, as he is a generational talent.
The delay in the talks and official announcement has led to some Liverpool fans questioning if the deal will ever go through.
However, while none of Liverpool’s bids have been accepted, there is certainly to be a lot of progress
Several reliable sources have indicated that Wirtz is set to be a Liverpool player.
On Friday, Sport BILD’s Axel Hesse reported that Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool can be considered a done deal, while Fabrizio Romano also asserted that “negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen for Wirtz are at final stages with details being sorted.”
German publication Kicker has corroborated the claims of Romano and BILD, confirming that “there are no longer any serious doubts about Florian Wirtz’s transfer from Bayer 04 to Liverpool FC.”
According to the report, “the deal has now entered the home stretch.”
“Liverpool and Leverkusen are close to reaching a final agreement.
There are therefore no longer any serious doubts that the mega-transfer will go ahead.”
The report also revealed the sum involved in the deal, claiming that the transfer fee will eclipse that paid for any player in the Bundesliga.
“The transfer package for the 22-year-old playmaker, who is under contract with Bayer 04 until 2027, consists of a fixed sum, easily achievable and success-related bonuses, and is around 150 million euros,” the report said.
“This deal will therefore eclipse both the transfer of Ousmane Dembelé from Borussia Dortmund to FC Barcelona in 2017 (for a fixed fee of 105 million euros) as the most expensive transfer in the Bundesliga, and the transfer of Argentinian World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez from Benfica Lisbon to FC Chelsea (for 121 million euros) five years later as the most expensive purchase in the Premier League.”
