Wirtz has opened up about his unexpected decision to join Liverpool, crediting conversations with Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes for sealing the deal after three weeks of intense negotiations.

I was really convinced by the people here, by the idea, everything that the club offers me was really good.



But I think the talks with the coach (Slot), Richard (Hughes) and everybody from the start, from the very first time, was so good and it kept going like this."

"All the time I spoke to one of the club, I felt like this is a place I want to be.

In the end I was really 100 per cent convinced that I want to join Liverpool.

So yeah, I just thought this was the right place for me."

Wirtz has given an insight into his conversations with Slot and confessions about discussing a potential move to Liverpool with fellow new signing Jeremie Frimpong after the Reds captured the Dutchman from Bayer Leverkusen.

"The conversations (with Slot) were always really good," Wirtz recalled.

Of course he wanted me to join as well.

"I think I made my decision on my own but there was maybe a small part that convinced me as well.

"It's a really nice thing that we can play together again at a new club, at maybe a bigger club, and make the move together.
