Liverpool may have to break the British transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

But Paul Robinson has suggested that the Reds are about to get the Germany international for significantly less than his actual value.

Negotiations remain ongoing between Liverpool and Leverkusen, with the Reds’ latest offer for the 22-year-old totalling £113m.

Bayern Munich had previously been favourites to sign Wirtz, before Liverpool stole a march on the Bavarians, while Manchester City ended their long-running interest in the player for financial reasons.

But former Premier League defender Robinson insists that the German is actually an £150m player.

Robinson, who represented Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers in the English top-flight continued: “But he’d be some player.
