Liverpool look set to break their transfer record for the second time in 73 days after Florian Wirtz’s display in their win over Arsenal.
Arne Slot‘s side landed the first key blow in this season’s Premier League title race with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal, thanks to a perfectly-placed Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick in the 83rd minute at Anfield.
Szoboszlai‘s man-of-the-match display from right-back gives Liverpool yet more versatility across their squad, but Slot is still keen to address their depth up front and at centre-back with two last-ditch deals.
Football Insider revealed early on Monday that Liverpool have two medicals booked in for Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak, with the latter set to surpass Wirtz as the Reds’ record transfer after just 73 days.

Wirtz had been the headline signing of Liverpool’s summer so far following his £116million move from Bayer Leverkusen, but that fee will be overtaken and then some once their move for Isak is completed.
Newcastle fans feel they’ve been short-changed by the £125m fee agreed between the two clubs, but the course is clear for Isak to finally wrap up his much-anticipated, British record switch to Anfield.
Slot had struggled to find a place for Wirtz in Liverpool’s new-look side at the start of this season, but the German’s all-action display against Arsenal finally announced his arrival to the Anfield faithful.

At full-time of their win on Sunday and as he prepares to lose the pressure of being Liverpool’s record signing, Wirtz posted on Instagram with the message of; “+3 points.
Great win – thanks for the atmosphere”.

Football Insider Verdict
Not only will Isak lift any potential burden off Wirtz’s shoulders as Liverpool’s record signing, the addition of Guehi alongside him will give Slot’s side the defensive strength-in-depth they arguably needed more.
Arsenal tested Liverpool less than Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Newcastle have so far this season, and Slot should potentially press harder for Guehi than for Isak as he aims to strengthen his backline.
Palace have lined up Guehi’s replacement in the form of Brighton’s Igor Julio in another massive boost for Liverpool, and if both deadline day deals are sealed, the rest of the Premier League should be very, very worried.
