Florian Wirtz's mistimed challenge on Bruno Fernandes left the Manchester United midfielder livid during the midweek Nations League semi-final between Germany and Portugal.
The Bayer Leverkusen, who is expected to sign for Liverpool in the summer window, was dribbling with the ball in the latter stages of the first half, when Fernandes hooked his leg round and won possession.
Wirtz put his foot down where he ball had been a mere second before, but caught his soon-to-be Premier League opponent on the the top of the foot.
It was a nasty challenge, one that angered the combustible United captain.
Both he and manager Roberto Martinez brought their complaints to the fourth official but Wirtz escaped unpunished. It comes after a week in which Wirtz and Fernandes have dominated the headlines.
One looks set to be on the move; the other is remaining in situ.
It's Wirtz who looks set to complete a summer transfer, with Liverpool reportedly set to lodge a third bid after two were rejected.
It has been suggested it could take a British record transfer fee of around £120 million ($163m) to prise the 22-year-old from Leverkusen.
