Liverpool’s preparations for the new season continue.

The club opened their pre-season account with an emotion-filled game against Preston North End.

Tributes were carried out to respect the lives of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, and the Reds put on a show for them as they won 3-1 thanks to goals from Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

Training sessions have been carried out since, as the players get back into the swing of preparing their bodies for professional football and building up their fitness.

New signings Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Giorgi Mamardashvili all seem to be settling in well, as they’ve been pictures laughing and embracing in training with their new team-mates.

Whilst most of the noise this morning has been around Hugo Ekitike, with the French forward set to become Liverpool’s latest summer addition as the club undergo a transformative window, the focus now turns to our current crop of players.

Liverpool are currently contesting a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke City at the AXA Training Centre.

Liverpool lead 4-0 at half-time thanks to a Darwin Nunez hat-trick and a Rio Ngumoha strike.

It remains to be seen whether Darwin Nunez will direct Arne Sot into a U-turn and force his way into his plans for next season after a strong start to pre-season.

There is one key factor to highlight today however, and that is that Florian Wirtz is on that pitch too.

A slightly quieter setting for the Liverpool debut I am sure he had imagined, but one where he can get up to speed with a new system and a new team.

Liverpool’s next official pre-seaosn friendly takes place on the 26th July against AC Milan as the Reds kick off their Asia tour.
