The 22-year-old had long been on Manchester City’s radar, but Arne Slot’s side moved quickly to secure his signature, just weeks after his former Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong also made the switch to Anfield.
Wirtz has been ever-present in Slot’s line-up, starting all three Premier League fixtures so far as well as the Community Shield.
While he netted 34 goals across the past two seasons in Germany, the playmaker is still waiting for his first Liverpool strike.
His only contribution in the final third so far has been an assist in the Community Shield, which ended in a penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace.
On international duty, though, Wirtz found his scoring touch again.
He netted Germany’s third goal in their 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Northern Ireland on Sunday.
Germany bounced back from their shock 2-0 loss to Slovakia with a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland.
Serge Gnabry opened the scoring early, but Isaac Price equalised from a corner.
Substitutes Maximilian Beier and Nadiem Amiri combined for Germany’s second before Florian Wirtz sealed victory with a stunning free-kick off the crossbar.
Asked about his first experiences in the Premier League, Wirtz told Germany’s RTL network: “It’s another league, another type of football
I’m happy to be there.
“I have no idea when I’ll score my first goal, hopefully in the next game, but it will come at some point.”
