Florian Wirtz reveals how Liverpool boss Arne Slot played an anchor role in helping him decide to join the Reds this summer.
Liverpool announced the signing of the German midfielder on Friday afternoon following the completion of his medical on the same day.
The Reds paid nearly £116m for Wirtz, which becomes a record fee in the club’s history.
Wirtz was also on the radar of several top clubs, with Bayern Munich and Manchester City both trying to sign him, but he reportedly only wanted to join Liverpool this summer.

After becoming the latest Liverpool player, the German youngster said: “The conversations were always REALLY GOOD.
I can remember the first time, he already showed me some scenes of how we want to play and how I could fit in the team.”
He also added: “He was just telling me that I’m a player he really wants to have in his team and can bring the team a step forward.
I just could imagine it [being] good to be in the team and to make it better because I have to make my performances every week – but I’m here for this.”
The role of Arne Slot was clearly crucial, as revealed by Wirtz.
The midfielder was fully convinced by the Dutch manager’s sporting project and decided to join the Premier League champions.
Slot might look to give the German midfielder a central role — similar to how Jude Bellingham was used at Real Madrid in the last two seasons.
Fans could see Wirtz operating in the No.
10 role, alongside World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, to create chances for the frontline and anchor the midfield.
