New Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz has thanked the club’s fans after completing his move.
After weeks of speculation and steady updates, Wirtz was announced as a Liverpool player on Friday.
The 22-year-old arrived in the UK on Thursday.
He completed his medical on Friday and was unveiled as a new Liverpool player on Friday evening.
“Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen,” a club statement read.
“The 22-year-old playmaker has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Reds after agreeing personal terms and successfully passing a medical.”
Speaking to LFCTV after completing his move, Wirtz sent a message to Liverpool fans describing his eagerness to play in front of them.
“Thank you for your support.
I saw it also on Instagram or everywhere else, that they wanted me to come, so I would say thank you for your support,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in front of them and to achieve big things together.”
Wirtz also spoke about his relationship with former Leverkusen teammate and fellow summer signing Jeremie Frimpong.
“Yes, he was my neighbour in the changing room, and I had to speak English with him… he was teaching me a lot, and making me speak more and better English,” he said of the new Liverpool right back.
The deal that brings Wirtz to Anfield will cost Liverpool around £116m?
If all add-ons are achieved, it would make him the most expensive signing in the club’s history and break the British transfer record.
