Liverpool supporters were understandably left last week after it emerged that their club had struck a record deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.

The Reds had two bids rejected, the last one of £113m, which would have seen £100m paid up front with performance-related add-ons, but have finally got the deal over the line.

As previously reported, the fee for the Germany international is split between a £100 million guaranteed payment and bonuses of up to £16million.

Liverpool beat off competition from Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid to land the playmaker.

And below is a round-up of everything that has happened since news of the deal was confirmed.

As reported by the ECHO's Paul Gorst on Monday, Wirtz is expected to have his medical this week before the 22-year-old returns to his summer holidays, while personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

While German publication BILD has claimed that Friday is the day in which Wirtz's medical tests will begin.

Liverpool completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong last month.

Frimpong was officially announced as a Reds player after the Anfield club triggered his £29.5m release clause.

The Dutch defender progressed through Manchester City’s academy before he joined Celtic in 2019.

However, it was Leverkusen where he caught the eye and helped the Bundesliga outfit clinch a league and cup double in 2024.

He was a team-mate of Wirtz’s at the BayArena, and the Germany international shared a snap with the 24-year-old on Tuesday as they spent time together on holiday.

Speaking about missing out on Wirtz last week, Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl said: "If I'm honest, I don't know if we could have paid what Liverpool are apparently paying now.

"Florian Wirtz is an outstanding player.

We could have imagined signing him.

But when a door closes, another opens."

While speaking over the weekend, Joshua Kimmich said: "You'll have to ask the club what their plans are.

"Of course, you have the feeling that we could do something – with Flo (Wirtz) not coming, with Leroy leaving, with Thomas leaving.

“I was surprised that he (Sane) is going to Turkey.

But it's his decision and he'll have his reasons for it.”

As previously reported by the ECHO, Liverpool are keen to sign a left-back this summer in a bid to find a long-term successor for Andy Robertson, who has now emerged as a shock leading transfer target for Atletico Madrid.

The 31-year-old admitted earlier this week that he was uncertain what the future holds for him at Anfield.

Perhaps that is because Liverpool remain confident of striking a deal for Milos Kerkez as talks with Bournemouth continue, who value the left-back at £45m.
