Florian Wirtz's move to the Premier League could be the transfer of the summer as Liverpool continue to push for his signature.

The 22-year-old has seemingly turned down interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City to make the move to the top-flight champions.

The Reds could smash their transfer record and have already had their £109million bid rejected by Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Arne Slot's side are still determined to sign the Germany star as they look to add reinforcements ahead of next season's title defence and push for the Champions League.

Wirtz will be in action for Germany on Wednesday night when they look to overcome Portugal in their UEFA Nations League playoff semi-final.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to land the German playmaker before the end of the international break but both the Reds and Bayer Leverkusen are keen for a quick resolution, in order to avoid a long drawn-out saga.

The ECHO has rounded up the latest news, rumours and reports surrounding the Reds' pursuit of Wirtz.

In a report from BILD, it is claimed Florian Wirtz has agreed to a five-year deal with Liverpool.

The outlet reports that the 22-year-old is on the verge of a record-breaking move to the Premier League champions.

It comes with the Reds preparing for a third bid for the Germany international after failing to reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen in their opening approaches.

It has been suggested that FSG have given Michael Edwards the approval which will see the Bundesliga sides £126m asking price met.

Wirtz hit back at claims that he wants to take over the number 10 shirt at Liverpool.

Reports emerged from Germany that the 22-year-old would prefer the squad number, which is currently occupied by Alexis Mac Allister.

However, for the first time since Liverpool-related links emerged, Wirtz publicly fired back at reports surrounding his future.

"Who says I want the [ten emoji] I respect players," he responded on social media.

"Don't believe everything what's written [clown emoji]."

Arne Slot cut his holiday short to honour a meeting with in-demand Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki.

The ECHO reported that the encounter with the Frenchman was pre-arranged before the pursuit of the German considerably ramped up ahead of the final home match against Crystal Palace.

Leverkusen are holding out for €150m (£125m) as the Reds would prefer to avoid a drawn-out transfer saga with the pursuit of Wirtz.

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard says if the Reds want to go to the next step, they need to improve and Wirtz is the type of player to propel them to new heights.

"Well, I think you've got to fix the roof while the sun is shining," Gerrard said.

So [Jeremie] Frimpong is done and there's obviously a lot of rumours circling around, really good, talented players.

"So it looks like Liverpool are going to be the team to catch and I've got every confidence that they are going to get stronger next year.

"Well look there's rumours, obviously, of Florian Wirtz.
