Liverpool remain in the hunt for Florian Wirtz, hoping to land the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder as their statement signing in response to winning the Premier League.
Negotiations have been on track over the past weeks with a potential British-record transfer not a simple task to complete.
Wirtz declined interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City to complete his preferred switch to Anfield and ever since this has been the utmost priority of both Liverpool and Leverkusen.
The German club have been resolute with their £126 million evaluation of their star, last refusing a £113m offer.
Then, despite claims elsewhere since suggesting an agreement has been reached, the ECHO last reported that this has been dismissed as premature by both sides.
And even if too soon, it does not mean that the deal won't be wrapped up in the early days of the summer transfer window.
