Bayern Munich and Manchester City have also been linked with signing the 22-year-old over recent months, but now it seems that the Reds are the favourites to get a deal over the line.

It has been reported by Fabrizio Romano on X - formerly known as Twitter - that Liverpool have now made their first bid to Leverkusen to sign Wirtz.

The report claims that the bid is worth more than €100million (£84million) and will include add-ons as part of the overall package.
Liverpool and Leverkusen are said to be set to resume talks on Monday, with the aim of agreeing a deal to bring Wirtz to Anfield.
A report from talkSPORT has claimed that Wirtz and Liverpool have now reached an agreement on personal terms for the 29-cap Germany player to move to Anfield.

It has been claimed in that report, too, that Liverpool will continue negotiating with Leverkusen on Monday to get a deal over the line for Wirtz.
City are also mentioned in the report, with it been claimed that Pep Guardiola's squad will look to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White as an alternative to Wirtz.
