Florian Wirtz is edging closer to a move to Liverpool, with Florian Plettenberg from Sky Germany providing his latest update.
It is believed that the player wants the transfer wrapped up before he joins Germany’s UEFA Nations League squad on June 2.
Liverpool have tabled an initial bid exceeding €100 million (£85 million) for the 22-year-old German international, who has already made it clear to Bayer Leverkusen that he wants to join the Premier League champions.
And while many Liverpool fans are no doubt getting a bit nervous, Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg has now allayed fears.
The Bundesliga insider has reported that clubs are locked in talks with a conclusion possibly expected at the end of the week.
Talks over a player swap is also slowing down talks:
“Offers are being sent back and forth between Liverpool and Leverkusen, Leverkusen are trying to get a player out of Liverpool and you can assume an agreement will possibly be reached this week for the transfer of Wirtz,” he said.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who boasts 29 caps for Germany, was pivotal in Leverkusen’s historic 2023-24 Bundesliga triumph, a campaign that saw him named the league’s Player of the Season.
He has just wrapped up another exceptional year, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists across all competitions.
