Liverpool fans are currently lauding the potential signing of Florian Wirtz, but the club are set to risk disharmony within the playing squad with his huge salary offer.

The Premier League champions are currently favourites to land the German star after he reportedly told Bayer Leverkusen officials he wanted to leave for Anfield.

The Reds are expected to shatter their transfer record with a £126million deal.



The 22-year-old, who was previously linked with Manchester City and Bayern Munich, is considered one of Europe’s most potent attacking midfielders after scoring 57 times in 197 club games in Germany.

The Egyptian has been perceived as the club’s marquee player since signing from Roma in 2017, having scored 245 times for the Reds, and is likely to raise eyebrows at Wirtz being so close to him in wages.

According to spotrac, skipper Van Dijk currently makes £11.44m-per-year.

When Trent Alexander-Arnold officially departs the club next month, Andy Robertson will be next behind Van Dijk on £.9.36m.

The arrival of Wirtz now threatens to unsettle Liverpool’s experienced players, given the cautious wage structure FSG have previously implemented.

He signed a new deal at the club in 2022 that runs until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, enabling the German club to demand a large fee for him.
