Florian Wirtz's father, Hans-Joachim, reportedly issued a clear demand to Bayern Munich that transfer talks must be wrapped up before their family go on holiday this summer.

Those discussions took place during a secret meeting, where the player's camp outlined their ambitions, only for Wirtz to ultimately decide on a move to Liverpool instead.

Bayern spent months courting Wirtz only for the player to inform them that he favours a Merseyside transfer as opposed to staying in Germany, with the two Bundesliga clubs unable to agree on a fee.

Bayer Leverkusen value their forward in the region of £126million.

Bild claim that on Friday afternoon, Bayern chiefs Uli Hoeneb and Max Eberl spoke with Wirtz's father, who declared that the situation must be resolved before his son's summer holiday.

Bayern 'tried everything' to complete a deal for the 22-year-old and had sit-down discussions with Hans-Joachim, but later that day, he informed them that Wirtz wanted to join Liverpool.

Vincent Kompany's outfit are said to be surprised at the timing of the decision, expecting that Wirtz was planning to stay in Germany and make the jump with Bayern, before leaving to a foreign league in three or four years.

Bayern held such a belief after several meetings with Wirtz's father, while the player also spoke with Kompany in addition to Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Slot is said to have 'inspired' Wirtz with his plans for the versatile forward, forcing Bayern to look elsewhere in the transfer market after losing out on who they believe is the best German player of his generation - alongside Jamal Musiala.

The Bundesliga champions have turned their attention to the Premier League for alternatives, with Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze and Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma targeted.

Bayern thought that Wirtz had given them his word that he would stay at Leverkusen until 2026 if a fee could not be agreed between the two clubs this summer.

However, their loss is Liverpool's gain and talks are underway to place the German international at Anfield next season, where he is likely to be joined by Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong.

The exodus at the Bundesliga runner-ups is set to continue, with Xabi Alonso leaving to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, as centre-back Jonathan Tah is signing for Bayern on a free transfer.
