Liverpool are set to bring in a new striker this summer, with Alexander Isak the main target going into the transfer window.

The Newcastle United attacker was the joint-second highest goalscorer in the Premier League this season with Isak enjoying his best year yet with the Toon since joining, with the Swedish international’s form attracting some big interest.

Liverpool were strongly linked with Isak heading into the off-season, yet Newcastle securing UEFA Champions League qualification thanks to Manchester United’s win against Aston Villa means that the former Real Sociedad attacker is off the table for the summer.

And as a result, Liverpool have already moved to identify their new main striking target with Isak not leaving Newcastle anytime soon.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool are now eyeing Hugo Ekitike as their new main striker target for the summer, with the Eintracht Frankfurt attacker enjoying a productive season with the Bundesliga giants.

Tavolieri posted on Twitter: “Alexander Isak’s now set to stay in Newcastle after they qualify for Champions League.

Liverpool now focus on… Hugo Ekitike as target for the number 9 position in case of Darwin Nunez leaving for Saudi Arabia or Spain.”

Ekitike has also been strongly linked with Liverpool leading into the summer transfer window with the former PSG wonderkid racking up an impressive 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions with Frankfurt.

And with Eintracht’s sporting director hinting that Ekitike could leave in the off-season, Liverpool turning their attention to the French youth international makes a lot of sense for the Reds, who are seemingly targeting younger players this summer based on their current moves in the market.

Isak would have been a dream addition for the Reds, especially with Liverpool closing in on the signing of Florian Wirtz, a transfer that could transform everything for Arne Slot’s side going into the new Premier League season.

Yet with Isak set to stay at Newcastle, Ekitike is a smart alternative for Liverpool, who this season has been just as good as the St.

James’ Park talisman as Frankfurt’s main striker having rediscovered his goalscoring touch.

At 22-years-old, as well, Ekitike is yet to reach his peak, and the attacker could develop into one of the best strikers in the world if Slot can get the best out of the youngster, who, alongside Wirtz, could form an incredible partnership at Liverpool.
