Arne Slot will be sacked midway through his first season in charge at Liverpool.

That is according to Football Manager, who have predicted how Slot will get on during his maiden campaign at Anfield. The Dutchman is on the verge of replacing Jurgen Klopp as their new manager, after it was confirmed the Reds have verbally agreed a compensation package with Feyenoord for Slot.

With that in mind, 90Min ran a simulation on Football Manager 24 to see how Slot could get on. In the virtual reality game, Slot pipped Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou to get the job. Slot started with a 4-2-3-1 formation and enjoyed a successful pre-season, with Trent Alexander-Arnold being used in midfield.

However, Slot endured a tough start to the season. The Reds suffered five defeats in their opening 12 matches of the season, losing against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Tottenham and Arsenal. Form improved for Slot in October and November before moving to sign Maurits Kjaergaard in January.

Despite progressing to the next round of the Champions League by beating Red Star Belgrade, Slot was sacked in February 2025 after losing against Chelsea and Manchester United. Mohamed Salah failed to impress under Slot and lacked his usual clinical streak in front of goal. With Slot dismissed, Liverpool moved to appoint Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton as their next manager.

Slot will be eager for the simulation not to repeat itself, meanwhile. The 45-year-old confirmed on Thursday that he wants to replace Klopp after talks began earlier in the weekend. Before Feyenoord played Go Ahead Eagles, he told ESPN: "I'd like to become the new Liverpool manager, my decision is clear, it's no secret.

"Feyenoord and Liverpool are in talks to negotiate, I'm waiting to see what will come out of it. I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement."

After arriving at Feyenoord from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2021, Slot has emerged as one of the most highly-rated managers in Europe. During his first season, he reached the final of the Europa Conference League. Last campaign, Feyenoord won the Dutch top-tier title before adding the KNVB Cup to his list of honours this month.

Speaking on the proposed appointment of Slot, Klopp said: "I like a lot about it if he is the one who wants to take the job. I like the way his team play football, all the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy.

"I like that a lot - good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good."
