Brentford have officially announced the signing of Jordan Henderson, with the England midfielder handed the No.6 shirt.

The 35-year-old confirmed his departure from Ajax last week after opting against another season with the Dutch giants.

The ex-Liverpool captain has penned a two-year deal with the Bees after successfully undergoing a medical on Friday.

He is now reunited with former Reds teammate Caoimhin Kelleher, who moved to the club earlier in the window.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews told the club's website: “When we became aware of Jordan’s availability, it was a pretty simple decision.

“We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is: he’s still phenomenally fit and he’s still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot.

“With the void of experienced players leaving the building - Christian Nørgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee - it was important to replace that.

“We’ve got a pretty young squad, overall, and we’ve got a lot of club experience, which is really important, with the likes of Vitaly Janelt, Mathias Jensen, Ethan Pinnock and Josh Dasilva, who is still at the club doing rehab.

“But what Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years.

Fan group Holmesdale Fanatics have released a statement on X, announcing that they will protest tomorrow.

It read: "UEFA's decision to demote Crystal Palace to the Conference League is a terrible injustice for both our club and the game of football as a whole.

"A team has won the oldest cup competition in the world and with it, its first piece of silverware in the club's history.

Their first Premier League game back at Anfield without Jota will come on Friday, August 15 against Bournemouth.

Darren Fletcher has changed roles at Manchester United, becoming the club's new lead coach of their U18s.

The former midfielder was a first-team coach on Ruben Amorim's team and reportedly could have stayed in that position.

But instead he's opted to take charge of the Red Devils' U18s, replacing Adam Lawrence who left at the end of the season.

He started his new role immediately and has already taken charge of pre-season preparations in Germany.

Fletcher said: “I am really excited to take on this new role and increase my responsibility to directly develop our young players.

"I’m looking forward to working with such a talented age-group; supporting them to reach their potential and preparing them to enjoy careers at the highest level possible.”

Wolves are closing in on the signing of Fluminense attacking midfielder Jhon Arias, talkSPORT understands.

They are in advanced talks over a deal in the region of £15m.

Arias played every minute of every game for his Brazilian side as they reached the Club World Cup semi-finals.

He had previously said that Palace being removed from the competition and put into the Conference League instead is a huge injustice following confirmation.

A UEFA ruling has seen Palace demoted to the third tier of European club football amid multi-club ownership issues.

Parish responded to claims that the club missed the deadline to comply with the organisation's rules this morning.

"Let’s put this ‘THEY missed the deadline’ nonsense to bed," he wrote on X.

"Let’s say Me, Josh, David and everyone other than Eagle football had placed our shares in a ‘blind trust’ before March 1st.

At the end of the game, it was all a bit too much for some of the Liverpool players.

As the Diogo Jota song rang out from the away end at Deepdale, many could be seen in tears.

This was the Reds' first match of pre-season and their first since the tragic passing of Jota.

During the game, the players managed to keep it together, but after, it all came flooding out, understandably so, of course.

That is the end of the match at Deepdale, and Liverpool have claimed a 3-1 win over Preston.

In the first game since Diogo Jota's tragic passing, there was a minute's silence and a rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

Darwin Nunez then paid tribute to Jota after scoring to make it 2-0 in the second half.

Liam Lindsay pulled a goal back for the hosts before Cody Gakpo soon responded to seal the match.

There are lovely scenes at the end as the Liverpool players are serenaded by the travelling Reds fans.

NERVOUS FINISH!

Well, I said it was game over, but it isn't at all.

Liam Lindsay has pulled one back for Preston North End from a corner.

There is a huge roar around Deepdale as the home crowd celebrate.

Can they get a late equaliser?

GAME OVER!

Darwin Nunez scores at the start of the second half after a mistake at the back.

The striker goes around the goalkeeper and scores in front of the Liverpool fans.

He then pays a touching tribute to Diogo Jota by sitting on the floor and doing the gamer celebration as the Portuguese star was an avid FIFA player.

The second half is underway at Deepdale, and Arne Slot has made wholesale changes.

The big news for Liverpool fans is that Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are making their debuts.

The pair joined Liverpool from Bournemouth and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively earlier this summer.

They have had plenty of time to get to know their teammates, and this will be the first time Reds supporters get to see them in action.

REDS TAKE THE LEAD!

Liverpool are into the lead at Deepdale, and it is Conor Bradley with the goal.

However, he has Federico Chiesa to thank big time.

The Italian receives the ball in the box and dribbles past two players before cutting it back for Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Hungarian fails to make proper contact, and the ball falls at Bradley's feet, and he sticks it in at the far post.

20 minutes into the match at Deepdale, and there is a minute's applause for Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.

Everyone in the stadium rises to their feet, while the Reds' fans also sing Jota's song.

It's a poignant moment, and it's great to see both sections of fans getting involved.

Before the match, there was a minute's silence and 'You'll Never Walk Alone' was played around the stadium as well.

There was also a touching tribute from Preston North End's captain as well.

Arne Slot has named his first starting line-up of pre-season as Liverpool prepare to face Preston.

The Reds head to Deepdale this afternoon for a clash with the Championship side, with kick-off at 3pm.

Mohamed Salah starts alongside Joe Gomez, Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa, Kostas Tsimikas and Ryan Gravenberch.

There is also a debut in goal for Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Summer signings Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are both amongst the substitutes.

However, Florian Wirtz has not been named in the matchday squad.

The Reds will face AC Milan and Yokohama F-Marinos as part of an Asian tour before hosting Athletic Bilbao at Anfield this summer.

Starting XI: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Szoboszlai, Salah, Chiesa, Tsimikas, Gravenberch, Ngumoha, Bradley, Stephenson, Nyoni

Subs: Woodman, Pecsi, Endo, Nunez, Jones, Gakpo, Robertson, Doak, Kerkez, Frimpong, Nallo, Koumas, Morrison, Pilling
