Manchester United's Champions League clash at Galatasaray could be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Images of today's earlier game between the clubs' youth sides showed the players struggling to control the ball and run on a waterlogged surface in Istanbul.

There has been heavy rainfall in the Turkish city and continuous rain is also forecast throughout this evening.

UEFA officials are currently checking the pitch and, as things stand, they are saying the game will still go ahead with a kick-off time of 5:45pm.

However, reports are there are patches of standing water in front of the benches and officials who have been rolling and bouncing balls on the pitch do not look at all impressed.

We'll keep you posted with any updates.

Football is set to introduce rugby style sin-bins at the elite level, according to reports.

It's part of a sport-wide attempt to stamp out dissent and abuse of referees, as well as tactical fouls, and could be trialled in the Premier League as soon as next season.

Another rule from rugby could also be enforced, in that captains will be the only players allowed to address match officials.

The International Football Association Board (Ifab) have labelled bad player behaviour towards referees as 'the cancer that might kill football'.

Sin-bins have worked successfully at grass roots and youth level and could now be introduced to the professional game to tackle the growing problem.

The Daily Telegraph claim discussions are now being held over whether players will be removed from the field for ten minutes after being dealt a yellow card, or if a new orange card will be introduced.

Former Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer has blasted the decision which handed Paris St German a Champions League get out of jail card against his home town club "disgusting" and "s***".

Shearer, the Magpies' record goalscorer, voiced his frustration on social media after Polish referee Szymon Marciniak was asked to review his decision not to award a penalty when Ousmane Dembele's cross hit Tino Livramento in the ribs and then hit the underside of his arm.

Phil Foden felt Manchester City were at their worst before recovering from 2-0 down to secure top spot in their Champions League group with a 3-2 win over Leipzig.

The holders trailed to two breakaway Lois Openda goals at half-time of Tuesday's clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Foden sparked their recovery after the interval, teeing up goals for Erling Haaland and substitute Jeremy Doku either side of scoring a sublime effort himself.

The England midfielder told TNT Sports: "First half was the worst I've seen us.

We had a fabulous night and it’s all Becky Ives’ [fellow football presenter] fault that I missed my earlier slot this morning, but you’re not supposed to tell the listeners.”

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United must keep calm and in control of their emotions if they are to emerge from their 'Welcome to Hell' experience at Galatasaray with their Champions League hopes alive.

It is 30 years since the Red Devils' first trip to the Istanbul giants, who progressed on away goals from that highly-charged encounter punctuated by hostility and intimidation.

United have visited Galatasaray twice in the Champions League since then and are now preparing for a huge clash for both sides amid an ear-splitting backdrop at Rams Park on Wednesday.

The Turkish champions are well placed to qualify having won the reverse fixture 3-2 and Ten Hag knows his side will be unable to reach the knockout phase if they lose the Group A encounter.

"We know we can (win away in Europe) and we are confident," Ten Hag said.

"The last games away from home in the league were also very hostile environments.

We will make a good plan but then, at the end of day, the players have to decide, they have to manage the game."

Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal 'disrespected' ex-manager Unai Emery - who continues to prove his worth at Aston Villa.

The Villans leapfrogged Tottenham into the Premier League's top-four with a 2-1 comeback victory over the north Londoners on Sunday.

It comes after Emery dragged Villa from a relegation battle in October to the Europa Conference League in May last season.

Few can doubt the Spaniard's transformative effect at Villa Park - but his first stint in the English top-flight was not such a roaring success.

Emery had the unenviable task of replacing long-term Gunners manager Arsene Wenger in 2018.

His time at the Emirates grew increasingly toxic before Arsenal decided to sack him after 18 months in charge.

Despite Mikel Arteta's growing success in the Gunners hot seat, Manchester United legend Ferdinand believes Emery was mistreated in north London.

"Unai Emery is doing madness," Ferdinand told the FIVE podcast.

"Arsenal disrespected his whole thing."

Gary O'Neil asked "what is the point in VAR?" after his Wolves side conceded a controversial late penalty during a 3-2 defeat at Craven Cottage.

VAR sent referee Michael Salisbury to the screen to award a penalty after Joao Gomes brought Harry Wilson down in the box, Willian scoring his second spot kick of the game to seal all three points for Fulham.

O'Neil highlighted the decisions involving the late penalty, Carlos Vinicius' alleged headbutt on Max Kilman and why Tim Ream did not receive a second yellow for a foul on Hwang Hee-Chan.

The Wolves boss criticised the decisions during the game and believes VAR has not helped the referee.

O'Neil said: "I don't think it's helped the game,

"I think the ref would have done a better job on his own.

There's minimal contact and I don't think there's enough."

Bruno Fernandes is relishing the hostile atmosphere at Galatasaray as Manchester United look to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Erik ten Hag's side look unlikely to be playing at European football's top table in the new year after defeats in three of their four Group A matches left them rooted to the bottom of the table.

United have lost away to Bayern Munich and Copenhagen and at home to Galatasaray, meaning another defeat in Istanbul on Wednesday would end their Champions League dreams with a match to spare.

"In the (playing) group the feeling is that we have to win both games we have ahead to hope to go through," United captain Fernandes said ahead of the trip to Galatasaray and home game against already-qualified Bayern.

"We know that's going to be tough, it's going to be difficult but we have to think that we can do it because we have done it in the past in difficult situations.

"We get through some difficult periods, so we just have to do it again."

Asked about the boost that United will get having won 3-0 at Everton before heading out to Turkey, he said: "We always feel confident because we know the qualities we have on the team.

"Obviously sometimes you don't get the results you want but we feel confident because we have confidence in the team we have, in the players we have, in the process we are (going) through.

"We know that it's already the second year with this manager, so some of the things have to be better and we have to improve that on the road to win games."
