If the game goes indeed go ahead, it doesn't look like conditions will improve - and will only get worse.

It appears ground staff are preparing the pitch for the game and the match could go ahead after all.

UEFA officials have been out on the surface for various tests over the last 30 minutes or so, and signs were not promising.

But journalists at the stadium have now posted images of the Champions League logo being pulled into position on the centre circle, with all signs pointing to the game kicking off as planned at 5:45pm.

We're keeping our eye on the situation, though, so stay tuned for further updates.

talkSPORT has been told there are ‘serious concerns’ over the Galatasaray pitch after a torrential rain storm in Istanbul.

Turkish football expert Emre Sarigul joined Hawksbee and Jacobs to provide an update on whether the game is set to go ahead or not.

“The famous slogan is ‘welcome to hell’ but today it’s not going to be that fiery because there’s torrential rain and there’s a real fear in Turkey right now that the game could be called off," he said.

“There are serious concerns right now, there is torrential rain in Istanbul as we speak, the Under-19 game did go ahead but the playing conditions were really bad [pictured below].

“There’s no statement right now, but the club is looking into it and the match officials are there.

“As things stand it is going ahead, but they’re running a few more tests.

“I’ve been told by the club the pitch should be able to deal with the amount of the rain there is now, but there is going to be a decision closer to kick off whether the game will go ahead or not.

“It’s all up in the air right now.”

Here's footage of Man United Under-19s' game against Galatasaray earlier today.

The match was played at a different stadium, and you'd expect Gala's pitch to have better drainage.

But with all the mounting injury problems throughout the Premier League and other top leagues this season, many fans are calling for the game to be called off with fears over the safety of their players.

Manchester United's Champions League clash at Galatasaray could be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Images of today's earlier game between the clubs' youth sides showed the players struggling to control the ball and run on a waterlogged surface in Istanbul.

There has been heavy rainfall in the Turkish city and continuous rain is also forecast throughout this evening.

UEFA officials are currently checking the pitch and, as things stand, they are saying the game will still go ahead with a kick-off time of 5:45pm.

However, reports are there are patches of standing water in front of the benches and officials who have been rolling and bouncing balls on the pitch do not look at all impressed.

We'll keep you posted with any updates.

Football is set to introduce rugby style sin-bins at the elite level, according to reports.

It's part of a sport-wide attempt to stamp out dissent and abuse of referees, as well as tactical fouls, and could be trialled in the Premier League as soon as next season.

Another rule from rugby could also be enforced, in that captains will be the only players allowed to address match officials.

The International Football Association Board (Ifab) have labelled bad player behaviour towards referees as 'the cancer that might kill football'.

Sin-bins have worked successfully at grass roots and youth level and could now be introduced to the professional game to tackle the growing problem.

The Daily Telegraph claim discussions are now being held over whether players will be removed from the field for ten minutes after being dealt a yellow card, or if a new orange card will be introduced.

PSG's stoppage-time penalty against Newcastle wasn't the only refereeing drama in the football world last night...

Barnsley arguably topped it in terms of drama, as they beat Wycombe late on via very strange circumstances.

With the clock ticking down, Sam Cosgrove saw goalkeeper Max Stryjek attempting to waste time by slowly picking up the ball.

He eventually did so and was bumped into by the Barnsley striker, with the ball falling from the Wycombe man's grasp as a result and Cosgrove seizing the opportunity to score his first goal for the club into an empty net.

The celebrations were delayed as he wondered if it had stood, but stand it did, baffling everyone in the stadium.

Sin bins should be trialled at higher levels of football following their successful implementation in the grassroots game, the sport's lawmaking body has agreed.

Temporary dismissals of players for offences such as dissent and specific tactical fouls were backed by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) at its annual business meeting.

IFAB board members also supported a proposed trial whereby only the team captain may approach the referee in certain major game situations.

Tuesday's meeting in London will shape the agenda for the organisation's annual general meeting, which will be held on March 2 in Glasgow, where any proposed changes to the laws of the game will be considered for approval.

Protocols and a system for trialling will now be developed.

Sin bins were introduced across all levels of grassroots football from the 2019/20 season in an attempt to to improve levels of respect and fair play in the game.

The rule change was implemented up to step five of the National League system and tier three and below in women's football.
