Wrexham are planning a surprise bid for former Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, talkSPORT understands.
The defender, who spent seven seasons at the Emirates before making a permanent move to Aston Villa in 2022, could be poised to join the Red Dragons for the 2025/26 campaign.
Chambers swapped Villa for Cardiff City last summer, spending one season in the Championship before facing relegation for the first time since 2003.
The 30-year-old could soon climb his way out of League One, however, joining Wrexham, who are back in the second-tier of English football for the first time in 43-years.

Bournemouth are close to an agreement with Liverpool for Ben Doak in the region of £25million, talkSPORT understands.
Doak would represent an immediate replacement for Dango Ouattara, who is closing in on a £42.5m move to Brentford.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 season after being shipped out to Middlesbrough on loan.
Doak chipped in with three goals and seven assists in 24 Championship matches from the first half of the campaign.
Unfortunately for Doak, his progression was halted by a season-ending hamstring knock in late January.
However, the Scotland international has since returned to full fitness and was an unused substitute in Sunday's Community Shield.
Doak arrived from Celtic in 2022, but has been limited to just ten appearances in all competitions.
Crystal Palace were keen on snapping up the teenager in January, but had a £15m bid swiftly rejected by Liverpool.
Meanwhile, relegated Ipswich Town had a £16m offer knocked back as the Premier League champions held out for more money.

Bayern Munich have opened talks with Chelsea for Christopher Nkunku, talkSPORT understands.
The German champions also made an enquiry for the French international back in January, but Chelsea's £60million asking price was deemed too high.
Bayern would prefer to do a loan with a buy option, but a permanent transfer is not ruled out, given Chelsea's asking price has now dropped.
Bayern have also tried to add forward Nick Woltemade this month, but are yet to agree a fee with Stuttgart.
talkSPORT understands Nkunku will be allowed to leave for significantly less than the £52m Chelsea paid Leipzig back in summer 2023.
At the start of the window, Chelsea wanted just over £40m, but an exit could be sanctioned for south of this number now.

Omari Hutchinson is undergoing a medical at Nottingham Forest after the club agreed a £37.5million fee with Ipswich.
A move would see his former club, Chelsea, earn around £4million due to the reported 25 per cent sell-on clause they included in his sale.
The Blues sold the former Arsenal academy starlet to Ipswich for an initial £20m plus £2.5m in add-ons last summer.
Infamously, Chelsea signed Hutchinson on a free transfer in 2022 after Edu Gaspar failed to convince the winger to sign a new deal.
The former Arsenal sporting director is now at Nottingham Forest in a newly established global head of football role.
With recruitment one of his remits, Edu has now sanctioned a deal that would have made Hutchinson Arsenal's record-ever sale...

Brentford are closing in on a £42.5million deal for Bournemouth forward Dango Ouattara, talkSPORT understands.
A club-to-club agreement is expected imminently, and Ouattara is keen on the move from the Cherries.
Ouattara's arrival at the Gtech Community Stadium should allow Yoane Wissa to then join Newcastle from Brentford.
Brentford had been adamant that Wissa would not be sold after Bryan Mbeumo left to join Manchester United for £71million.
But talkSPORT previously reported that they were willing to soften their not-for-sale stance on Wissa if they found a replacement.
Here's how the two compared in the Premier League last season...

Brentford boss Keith Andrews cheekily claimed Yoane Wissa 'owes' him to remain at the club, but conceded there is no guarantee.
Wissa has been the subject of heavy interest from Newcastle, who have already had two offers for the Congolese forward rejected this summer.
talkSPORT understands Newcastle expect to get a deal for Wissa over the line by the end of this week.
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT's Sam Matterface, Andrews playfully pointed out how he was responsible for nearly half of Wissa's goal tally last term, so a continued spell in west London is the least he can do to repay the Irishman.
"I have got a good relationship with Wiss," Andrews said.
"I worked really hard with him last year to try and find goals.
Seven of his 19 goals last year came from set pieces.
"He owes me really, so he shouldn't be going anywhere, to be blunt!"

Negotiations are being led by Forest's head of global football and ex-Arsenal sporting director Edu.
