Sunderland are contemplating re-signing Jordan Henderson after winning promotion to the Premier League, talkSPORT understands.

Club legend Henderson was watching from the stands as the Black Cats beat Sheffield United in Saturday's Championship play-off final.

The Sunderland hierarchy are aware Henderson is likely to leave Ajax this summer and believe he would add valuable experience to their young team.

England midfielder Henderson, 35 next month, is understood to be open to returning the Stadium of Light.

He started his career in the Sunderland academy before he broke into the first-team picture in 2008.

Three years later he left for Liverpool and collected a full set of major trophies - winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup - during his 12 years at Anfield.

Henderson completed a controversial move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq in 2023 but spent just six months in the Middle East before a move to Ajax.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are keen to keep Jobe Bellingham, who has held talks with Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund.

Newcastle are reportedly plotting moves for Marc Guehi and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

According to the Telegraph, Eddie Howe’s side are ready to kick-off a busy off-season in the transfer market.

Guehi and Mbeumo have both been identified as top targets at St.

James’ Park after Champions League qualification was secured.

The Magpies have also decided on a transfer budget following their fifth place finish in the Premier League.

Newcastle previously pursued a deal for Crystal Palace defender Guehi last summer as they saw several bids knocked back.

They eventually walked away from the deal but could now return with a fresh approach as the England international enters the final year of his contract.

Meanwhile, Mbeumo is attracting interest from a host of clubs after scoring 20 league goals for Brentford this season.

Manchester United have already held talks with the Cameroonian, who is also out of contract in 2026, ahead of a potential move.

Sporting Lisbon have confirmed that they are yet to receive an approach for in-demand striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish forward is one of the most sought after players in Europe this summer after another stellar season in Portugal.

Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions as Sporting won a league and cup double.

Arsenal are understood to be leading the race to sign the 26-year-old this summer, but Sporting’s vice-president says nothing is finalised yet.

Francisco Salgado Zenha told reporters: "He has three more years on his contract.

Not that we have not received offers, but the market is not under our control, we are always dependent.”

Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United are right to back Ruben Amorim despite his slow start.

The Red Devils boss won just seven of his 27 Premier League matches after arriving at Old Trafford in August.

Amorim also saw his side lose the Europa League final to Tottenham last week, meaning they will not be in Europe next season.

However, Mourinho has backed his compatriot to succeed at United in the long run.

The Portuguese told Sky Sports: "From what I read the impact [of losing Europa League final] on Man United of course it is huge in the sense of how many years Man Utd is not involved in any European competition.

"But at the same time it looks like they are supporting Ruben.

We were struggling even to qualify for UEFA Cup and then it happened, what happened."

Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

Talks are understood to have taken place over a potential move, according to Sky Germany.

Arne Slot is said to be keen on the 22-year-old Frenchman, who is also a target for Chelsea.

However, Frankfurt value Ekitike at around £84million, with four years remaining on his contract.

The France under-21 international scored 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season.

It has already been a busy summer for Slot and Liverpool following their Premier League title triumph.

The club are looking to seal a double swoop for two Bayer Leverkusen stars ahead of next season.

Full-back Jeremie Frimpong has already landed on Merseyside to complete his move to the Reds.

Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz has agreed personal terms with the club after Manchester City and Bayern Munich both pulled out of the race to sign the German midfielder.

Johnny Heitinga is closing in on a move away from Liverpool after talks over a managerial role.

The Dutch coach is one of Arne Slot’s assistants at Anfield and is fresh from winning the Premier League title.

However, Heitinga is a leading candidate to become the next Ajax manager.

Negotiations between him and the club are said to be at an advanced stage.

Meanwhile, the Reds have begun the process of looking for a replacement if Heitinga’s exit is completed.

The former Everton defender joined the club last summer after leaving his role at West Ham.

Prior to working under David Moyes with the Hammers, he had spent his entire coaching career at Ajax.

As a player, he made 218 appearances across two spells with the Dutch giants, winning nine trophies in the process.

Thierry Henry has admitted it is ‘normal’ for fans to be asking questions of Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

The Spaniard has guided the Gunners to three consecutive second place finishes in the Premier League.

However, he has not won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup back in 2020.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have won silverware in two of the last three seasons as well as reaching the Europa League final this term.

Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, Henry explained: “I understand that at the very beginning for Arteta you arrive and it’s not your team, you need at the very least three or four transfer windows to change everything that you want to.

“It takes time and you have to give a manager time to be able to implement what he wants to do.

But I'm happy for Mischa to be here."

Leicester have announced the departures of 11 players when their contracts expire this summer.

The Foxes previously confirmed Jamie Vardy would leave the club after 13 years at the King Power Stadium.

During that time, the Leicester icon scored 200 goals in 500 appearances as well as winning both the Premier League and FA Cup.

Goalkeepers Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen have also been released following the end of the season.

Iversen has already landed himself a new club after agreeing to join Preston on a four-year deal.

The move sees the Danish stopper return to Deepdale following two previous loan spells.

He could now face the Foxes again in the Championship next season following their relegation from the Premier League.

A further eight players will depart at the end of June with Oliver Ewing, Harvey Godsmark-Ford, Ben Grist, Deniche Hill, Liam McAlinney, Arjan Raikhy, Joe Wormleighton and Brad Young all exiting.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca told his team they can defy their critics and demonstrate beyond doubt that they have come of age when they face Real Betis in Wednesday's Conference League final in Wroclaw.

The Italian issued a stinging rebuke on Sunday to those he believes had lacked faith in his squad - which is the youngest in Premier League history - following their 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest that secured Champions League football for next season, telling anyone who had doubted his team to "eff off."

There was an equally fiery reaction from defender Levi Colwill who also swore during a post-match media interview.

Victory at the City Ground brought the curtain down on a tense run-in as the Blues squeaked over the line in the race for the top five, wrapping up a place in Europe's top competition one year ahead of Maresca's own schedule.

It also hugely changed the mood going into Wednesday's showpiece in Poland, with Chelsea now able to face Betis in the knowledge that whatever the outcome it is mission accomplished.

Nevertheless, the sense after Forest was of a siege mentality having returned to the club, the like of which characterised earlier periods under such firebrand bosses as Jose Mourinho.

"I think it's a good feeling that the players react when there are some critics," said Maresca.

Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini said Manchester United loanee Antony 'wants revenge' for the way his Old Trafford career deteriorated before his move to Seville.

Wednesday's Conference League final against Chelsea in Wroclaw could be the 25-year-old's final match for the club he joined on a six-month deal in January, the move bringing to an end a troubled spell in the Premier League during which he failed to live up expectations set by a fee of up to £87million.

The winger, who has reportedly been made available for permanent transfer by United, told Brazilian media this week that he could go 'days without eating' during his lowest moments as he struggled to match the standards he set playing for former club Ajax, from whom he joined in 2022.

With nine goals in 25 games for Betis, including one in each leg of the 4-3 aggregate semi-final win against Fiorentina that set up Wednesday's showpiece in Poland, live on talkSPORT, he has enjoyed a resurgence as the team finished sixth in La Liga, with the club believed to be keen to sign him permanently.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus are reportedly set to offer competition for his signature, with United likely to make back a fraction of the fee they paid.

"I spoke with him before he came to Betis," said Pellegrini, who has led Betis to their first European final.
