Tottenham have condemned the vile racist abuse Mathys Tel suffered in the aftermath of the Super Cup on Wednesday night.

Spurs lost to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shoot-out having led 2-0 for most of the game, with the French side hitting back late on to force the game into spot kicks.

Tel missed his, along with Micky van de Ven, but it was revealed that 20-year-old forward Tel was subjected to racist abuse online.

Tottenham then released a statement the following morning, which read: "We are disgusted at the racial abuse that Mathys Tel has received on social media following last night’s UEFA Super Cup defeat.

"Mathys showed bravery and courage to step forward and take a penalty, yet those who abuse him are nothing but cowards - hiding behind anonymous usernames and profiles to spout their abhorrent views.

"We will work with the authorities and social media platforms to take the strongest possible action against any individual we are able to identify.

"We stand with you, Mathys."

Manager Thomas Frank insisted he was proud of his players and on the penalties said: "It’s down to the smallest of margins, like the flip of a coin.

"I’d like to thank all the players who stepped up, were brave and took responsibility."

Spurs kick off their Premier League campaign against Burnley on Saturday.

Liverpool are set to add their fifth major first team signing in the shape of Parma's Giovanni Leoni.

talkSPORT understands that a £26million deal for the Italian centre back could be made official within the next 24 hours.

His arrival would up the Reds' Europe-leading spend past the £290m mark with Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong already through the door.

The 18-year-old Leoni has just one season of top flight experience with Parma but has attracted the interest of elite scouts across Europe.

Paris Saint-German manager Luis Enrique has said he's '100 per cent responsible' for Gianluigi Donnarumma's impending departure.

The Italy No.1 is being linked with a string of Premier League sides after appearing to confirm his exit, months on from winning a treble in Paris.

Lucas Chevalier has been signed as the club's new first choice goalkeeper, and Donnarumma has been left out of the Super Cup against Tottenham in response.

In a statement he said 'someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group' and his manager has now confirmed that was him.

"I am 100 per cent responsible," Luis Enrique told the media.

"Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, however, this is the life of a top-level footballer.

"These decisions have to do with the profile of the goalkeeper my team needs."

Marc Guehi remains content to see out the final year of his Crystal Palace contract and leave on a free transfer next summer, talkSPORT understands.

Liverpool have held exploratory talks with Palace over a potential move for Guehi as extra competition for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

However, with Palace valuing Guehi in excess of £40million and the England defender wanting regular minutes ahead of next summer's World Cup, it is not guaranteed he leaves this window.

Newcastle United wanted to sign Guehi a year ago but, contrary to reports, have not revived their interest while senior sources at Chelsea have also ruled out a move to re-sign their former academy product.

It is believed several top European clubs will join the race for Guehi if he is available as a free agent in a year's time.

Jack Wilshere has reportedly turned down the chance to return to Arsenal.

The former Gunners midfielder has opted against becoming the club's under-21 head coach, according to the BBC.

He has instead opted to focus on securing a first senior managerial role.

It would have signified a second spell coaching in the Arsenal youth set-up for Wilshere.

Having retired in 2022, the 32-year-old spent over two years in charge of their under-18 side.

He left north London in October last year, though, to become an assistant to Norwich boss Johannes Thorup.

Following the Dane's exit in April, Wilshere was placed in caretaker charge for the final two matches of the season.

After missing out on the permanent role to Liam Manning, he left the club earlier this summer.

Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of highly-sought after forward Richard Kone.

The Ivorian has joined the club from League One side Wycombe.

Kone scored 21 goals for the Chairboys last season as they finished fifth in the table.

He was also named the division's player and young player of the season.

Luton failed with multiple bids for the 22-year-old during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, both Swansea and Leicester had been linked with a move for Kone this summer.

He could make his debut for QPR as early as this weekend, with the R's visiting Watford on Saturday.

Kone missed Wycombe's season opener earlier in August but played 32 minutes off the bench against Stockport last weekend.

Cristian Romero has spoken after being named Tottenham's new captain.

The World Cup winner had been a vice-captain alongside James Maddison under former skipper Heung-min Son.

However, following the Spurs legend's exit, Romero has been handed the armband ahead of the new season.

Speaking after the move was announced, the Argentine defender told the club's media channels: "I’m very happy to be the first team captain of the club.

I spoke with the players and tomorrow is also another big night for the club, for the players, for the fans, we need to enjoy this moment."

Romero will lead the team out for the first time this season against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

The two sides meet at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy with kick-off at 8pm BST.

A deal in the region of £30million is being discussed between the two clubs.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche.

According to Sky Germany, City could rival Bayer Leverkusen for the 23-year-old.

Akliouche scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

City's interest comes amid Tottenham's £50million pursuit of Savinho.

talkSPORT understands that whilst talks have taken place, City do not want to sell the Brazilian.

Meanwhile, they have been urged to cash in on Savinho if it means they can sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

Ally McCoist told Breakfast: "I think it would be a good move even for a lot of money.

"I think he’s an unsung hero in that team and I can see him being a success at City.

And now he hears this?"

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reportedly found a new club after leaving Everton.

The free agent has agreed personal terms with Leeds, talkSPORT understands.

Calvert-Lewin is scheduled to undergo a medical at the club's training ground before signing for the newly-promoted side.

talkSPORT previously revealed Leeds had walked away from talks with the striker earlier this summer.

The player's wage demands at the time and a desire to play European football proved a stumbling block in negotiations.

However, he has remained without a club and a move to Elland Road is now back on.

Manchester United and Newcastle had also shown recent interest in the 28-year-old.

During nine years with the Toffees, Calvert-Lewin scored 57 goals in 239 Premier League appearances.

Newcastle are hoping to complete the signings of both Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey this week, talkSPORT understands.

The Magpies' aim is to wrap the deals up before the start of the new Premier League season.

Eddie Howe's side travel to face Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime.

Villa academy graduate Ramsey is closing in on a move to St.

James' Park ahead of that fixture.

The two clubs are advancing in talks over a £40million deal, with a fee close to being agreed.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's long-running pursuit of Wissa is also nearing a positive conclusion for the Toon Army.

Bournemouth are in advanced talks to sign Amine Adli from Bayer Leverkusen, allowing Dango Ouattara to join Brentford.

His arrival at the Gtech Community Stadium would open the door for Wissa to leave the Bees.

The double deal would mean Newcastle have made three signings this week following Malick Thiaw's arrival on Tuesday.

Howe has also added Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale to his squad this summer.

Manchester City are contemplating a stunning hijack of Chelsea's proposed deal for Xavi Simons, talkSPORT understands.

The Dutchman has agreed personal terms with the Blues ahead of a potential move to Stamford Bridge, but the clubs are yet to reach an agreement.

That could open the door for City to come in and try to complete a deal themselves.

As of yet, it is just interest from the former Premier League champions, and it is likely dependent on players moving on.

Savinho has been linked with a shock transfer to Tottenham, but talkSPORT understands Man City don't want to sell.

However, they may reluctantly let him go if the Brazilian pushes for a move.

Aston Villa are back in talks to re-sign Paris Saint-Germain attacker Marco Asensio, talkSPORT understands.

Villa first made a move to acquire the Spain international permanently in April, but knew Asensio would assess all options this summer, giving initial priority to clubs with Champions League football.

With the window winding down, Asensio has become open to re-joining Villa and all options are now being discussed with PSG, including another loan.

PSG are willing sellers as Asensio has just a year left on his contract having joined the French champions from Real Madrid in 2023.

PSG secured the 29-year-old on a free transfer back then and are prepared to sell Asensio for under £17.3million as a result.

Asensio proved a popular signing during his loan spell at Villa last season, featuring 21 times and scoring eight goals.

The move to bring him back is driven by Unai Emery, who values Asensio's versatility.

This will be even more important should attacking midfielder Jacob Ramsey join Newcastle.

James' Park could be finalised as early as this week.

The midfielder is keen on a move to Newcastle ahead of the new season.

He previously rejected an approach from West Ham earlier in the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Villa have reopened talks to bring Marco Asensio back to the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are looking to sell the Spanish playmaker this month.

Asensio spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances.

Bournemouth are in advanced talks to sign Amine Adli, talkSPORT understands.

Bayer Leverkusen are seeking £26million for the Moroccan forward.

Adli is viewed as a direct replacement for Cherries winger Dango Ouattara.

His arrival would pave the way for Ouattara to depart for Brentford this summer.

That move could in turn allow Newcastle to complete the signing of Yoane Wissa from the Bees.

Adli scored twice in 20 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen last season.

He was also part of the side which won an unbeaten league and cup double in 2024.

Bournemouth earlier completed the signing of defender Bafode Diakite from Lille.

Cristian Romero has been named Tottenham captain for the upcoming season.

It follows the departure of former skipper Heung-min Son earlier this month.

He had previously served as vice-captain under Son since 2023 alongside James Maddison.

Romero now takes the armband for Thomas Frank's side ahead of the UEFA Super Cup.

The Europa League winners face Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night before hosting Burnley this weekend.

Romero is entering his fifth season in north London having signed from Atalanta on an initial loan in 2021.

The Argentina international has made 124 appearances for Spurs, scoring seven goals from central defence.

However, he has also been sent off four times for the club across those matches.

Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of defender Bafode Diakite.

The 24-year-old has joined the club from Lille in a deal worth up to £34.5million including add-ons.

It makes Diakite the second most expensive signing in the Cherries' history behind Evanilson.

His arrival follows Illia Zabarnyi's departure to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.

Diakite is Andoni Iraola's third summer signing after the arrivals of Djordje Petrovic and Adrien Truffert.

He could make his debut this weekend with Bournemouth kicking off the new season away to Liverpool on Friday.

Iraola is hoping to do further business with talks ongoing with Bayer Leverkusen for Amine Adli.

His arrival would clear the way for Dango Ouattara to join Brentford.

Omari Hutchinson chose not to play in Ipswich's Carabao Cup exit, his manager has confirmed.

The midfielder missed the Tractor Boys' Championship opener on Friday with a throat infection.

However, Kieran McKenna has revealed he was fit to return to action at Bromley on Tuesday only for the player to pull out.

Hutchinson told his manager that ongoing transfer speculation had left him unable to feature against the League Two outfit.

Speaking after the match, McKenna explained: "He trained on Monday okay and then felt he couldn't contribute today with the situation as it is.
