The football world has united around Liverpool and their fans after a car drove into supporters during their Premier League trophy parade on Monday.

Four children were among 47 people injured when the driver of a people carrier ploughed through a crowd of pedestrians celebrating Liverpool’s title win.

A 53-man man has been arrested and Merseyside Police have said they are not treating the incident as terror-related.

The football world has shown its support for Liverpool and the city in the wake of the terrifying scenes.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Football stands together with Liverpool FC and all fans of the club following the horrific incident that has taken place during the trophy parade in the city.

From everyone at FIFA, we offer our thoughts and prayers to all those affected.”

The Premier League said in a statement: “Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.

“We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident.”

Clubs from across the Premier League and the rest of the world have all posted messages of support for Liverpool on social media.

London’s Premier League side were among them, with Arsenal posting: “The thoughts of everyone at Arsenal are with the city of Liverpool and those affected.”

Chelsea posted: “Everyone at Chelsea Football Club’s thoughts are with Liverpool Football Club and those impacted following the horrific incident in the city today.”

Liverpool’s Manchester rivals, City and United, both also showed their support on social media.

Manchester United wrote: “Our thoughts are with @LFC and the city of Liverpool after today’s awful incident.”

Manchester City posted: “The thoughts of everyone at Manchester City are with those injured or affected by the incident at Liverpool’s title-winning parade earlier today.”
