Youssef Chermiti has been handed an escape from his Everton nightmare, with Rangers reportedly pushing for a late-window deal.
The Portugal youth international was signed from Sporting CP for £15million (BBC) in the summer of 2023.
However, Chermiti has so far struggled on Merseyside, with the striker failing to score in 24 senior appearances for Everton, while also suffering major injury problems — missing 24 games last season with hamstring and foot issues (Transfermarkt).
Chermiti currently earns £1.56m per year according to Capology, meaning he picks up a bigger salary than first-team regulars like Dwight McNeil (£1.3m), Tim Iroegbunam (£1.04m) and Carlos Alcaraz (£1.04m).
But the striker now looks set to be offered a route out of Everton by a familiar face.

According to Sky Sports (28 August), Rangers have ‘made contact’ with Everton regarding a loan deal for Chermiti.
The Scottish giants are reeling following their 6-0 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, leaving manager Russell Martin with just a 30% win rate.

Reinforcements are desperately needed at Ibrox if Rangers’ season isn’t to fizzle out before even really beginning — not to mention if Martin is to save his job.
Rangers’ push for Chermiti is likely being fuelled by sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who signed the 21-year-old during his time overseeing transfers at Everton.
The Gers currently have Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Hamza Igamane as centre-forward options, but the trio have notched just two goals and two assists combined at the start of this season — while the latter looks set to leave the club this summer.

Football Insider verdict
Even before joining Everton, Chermiti didn’t exactly boast a prolific goalscoring record.
The 6ft 2? striker managed just three goals and two assists in 22 senior appearances for Sporting CP, while at youth level, he only bagged three goals in 26 outings.
As mentioned, Chermiti is yet to score a senior goal for Everton, with his only strike in English football coming against Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy back in November 2023.
Chermiti has represented Portugal at every youth level between U15 and U21 apart from U17, with his record of 14 goals in 37 combined appearances there much more respectable.
However, given his struggles for both confidence and fitness at Everton, there’s no doubt that Chermiti’s signing would be a risk for Rangers — even on loan, given the urgency with which they need results.
Rangers have scored just two goals in their last three matches and have netted more than once in a single match in just three of their 10 games under Martin, who cannot afford to have any more forwards misfiring.
