Woodman has spent the last couple of seasons as Preston North End’s first-choice, but after he didn’t renew his contract, Liverpool swooped in to sign him on a free transfer.

And, while the Englishman won’t likely have much of a part to play in the Anfield outfit’s successes over the next couple of years, his signing is certainly a smart one.

The Spaniard was in charge of the club for a couple of years, and instead of messaging his youth coach, called Simon, he accidentally sent a message to BBC reporter, Simon Clancy, who shared the story via his personal X account.

The texts read as follows: “Hi Simon, we need to bring back Woodman.

Thanks, Rafa.”

To which Clancy replied: “Hello Rafa, as nice as it was to hear from you, I think this was meant for a different Simon.

Very best wishes, Simon at the BBC.”

Rafa then responded: “Ok, thank you.”

Although Liverpool have already added five new players to their ranks, there are still a couple of areas within their squad that could do with an upgrade.

Now that Liverpool have sorted out their goalkeeper and back four, their next priority will likely be a new number nine.
