Moises Caicedo was the hottest topic in the Premier League during the past summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old was thought to be joining Chelsea, but Liverpool surprised everyone near the end of the window by presenting an incredible bid of about £110 million to the Seagulls – who accepted the offer.

The Reds were predicted to make a bid of £100M (£90M + £10M).

However, Brighton received a £110 million offer.

But as everyone remembers from the summer, the Ecuador international made the decision to stay true to his word and sign with Chelsea, who had long since courted the former Brighton player.

Many Liverpool fans were upset that the Reds had been publicly embarrassed in the transfer market in this manner, but it’s safe to say missing out on Caicedo was a blessing in disguise.

Wataru Endo has proved every bit the signing Liverpool fans thought Caicedo would be, but at a fraction of the price.

The Reds have already won a trophy this season and are still fighting for the Premier League and the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and are set for another mediocre finish in the Premier League.

But former Ecuador manager, Gustavo Alfaro – who also was Mac Allister’s coach at Boca Juniors, recently revealed that he asked the Liverpool man to help Caicedo when the pair were still at Brighton.

What was did Gustavo Alfaro say about Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister?

Speaking to TNT Sports (via Rousing the Kop), Alfaro revealed that he once asked the World Cup winner to help Caicedo settle at Brighton:

“I had the chance to be with him when I went to visit Brighton’s Ecuadorian boys, Caicedo, Sarmiento and Estupinian,” began Alfaro.

“I was at training, I talked to them and then I went to lunch with Alexis.”

Talking about everything he had been through, he told me that it had been difficult for him to find the rhythm of English football, that it was a matter of time.”

“He shared the midfield with Caicedo.

I asked him on more than one occasion to help Moses, because when he was only 18 years old Brighton had bought him.

It helped him a lot since he arrived.”

“That sets the tone for what Alexis is.

“It’s an example of how far a player can go when talent is based on humility.”

It’s a glowing assessment on Mac Allister, and his leadership skills at Anfield is already present judging by the impact he has in his fledging Liverpool career.

And Moises Caicedo may be looking over at his former teammate and Liverpool wondering what if.
