Former Liverpool Women's player Rinsola Babajide became the latest soccer star to pay tribute to Diogo Jota by mimicking his gaming controller celebration.

Babajide scored Nigeria's second goal as the nation kicked off its Women's Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 3-0 victory over Tunisia.

After finding the net, Babajide celebrated by sitting cross-legged on the floor and pretending to play a video game, which was one of Jota's trademark celebrations.

Babajide, who played for Liverpool between 2018 and 2022, was asked about the celebration after the game and revealed: "It was for Diogo Jota and his brother as well, that was one of his biggest celebrations at the club especially.

As well as being a fantastic soccer player, Jota, who died in a car crash last week, was well known to be a world-class gamer: in 2021, he achieved the world No.1 ranking on FIFA 21 on PlayStation after going an unbeaten 30-0 in the soccer game's Ultimate Team Champions mode.

Babajide is just one of many players to have paid tribute to Jota with a goal celebration in recent days, with his former Portugal Under-21 teammate, Diogo Goncalves, also performing the gaming controller celebration after scoring for MLS outfit Real Salt Lake.

Ousmane Dembele produced it after scoring for Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, while former Wolves teammate Raul Gimenez also did it, before holding up a Mexico jersey with 'Jota 20' on it after scoring against the United States in the Gold Cup play-offs.

Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, ran to the pitchside camera and made out the number 20 — Jota's squad number at Liverpool — with his hands as he celebrated scoring Real Madrid's third goal against Borussia Dortmund.

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were journeying from Portugal to the Spanish port city of Santander, from where they intended to travel on a ferry to Portsmouth ahead of returning to Liverpool, when they died in a car crash.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk arrived with a floral tribute in his hands, as did Andy Robertson, while Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and several other Reds players also turned out to bid their final farewells to Jota.

Former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold was unable to attend due to his Club World Cup commitments with Madrid, but expressed his sadness after Los Blancos' quarter-final win over Dortmund.

"It's been very difficult for everyone that knew him, not just me and his teammates, friends or family, but the footballing world," Alexander-Arnold added

"Some things are bigger than the game.

"It's been difficult, but also very heart-warming to see the footballing world unite and come together to show their love and support for his family and his brother for what must be mind-blowingly hard times for his family.

"I've been around his family, his brother, his amazing wife and amazing three children, so it's truly heart-breaking
