Some join the academy with high hopes but find their careers take a different path.
They work hard on loan, try to impress, and wait for a chance that sometimes never comes.
Supporters rarely hear their names, because their stories unfold far from the Premier League spotlight.
These players can still build good careers.
They move from club to club, grow through loan spells, and fight to earn permanent deals elsewhere.
For them, success means finding a team that values them and gives them regular football.
Their journey might not include Kop cheers, but it shows determination.
Liverpool fans know football is not only about those who lift trophies.
It is also about those who keep going when the first dream changes.
One of those quiet stories now has a big ending.
Colombian right-back Anderson Arroyo has officially left Burgos in Spain to join Russian side Rubin Kazan on a deal running until 2029.
His move is already historic.
According to Transfermarkt, the €1 million (£868k) fee is the record sale for a player from Burgos, doubling what the club received for David Goldar in 2024.
Arroyo’s path has been long?
Liverpool signed him from Fortaleza CEIF in January 2018 when he was just 18.
Yet he failed to play a game for Liverpool in any capacity.
He spent six years on the books and went on eight separate loan spells at clubs including Mallorca B, KAA Gent, Mlada Boleslav, Salamanca UDS, Mirandes, Deportivo Leaves, FC Andorra, and Burgos.
In 2024 he finally left Liverpool permanently for Burgos, where he enjoyed a full season in La Liga 2 and featured in the Copa del Rey.
Earlier this week, Rubin Kazan confirmed his arrival, and Arroyo made a 10 minute cameo on debut on Friday evening.
He will wear the number 12 shirt for his new club.
Very few Liverpool supporters knew he was once a Red, but there is pride in seeing a former player earn a landmark transfer.
His story reminds fans that football careers take many routes, and perseverance can still lead to historic milestones even away from Anfield.
