One former Liverpool player is the leading candidate to replace former Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who is facing the sack at Besiktas.

Solskjær was announced as Besiktas boss in January 2025.

He enjoyed a strong start to life at the club, as he guided the team to eight wins and one draw in his first 12 games, culminating in a victory in the Be?ikta?-Galatasaray derby on Saturday, 29 March 2025, when his side secured a 2–1 win over then-undefeated Süper Lig leaders Galatasaray.

By the end of the season, he had led Besiktas to a fourth-place finish, having arrived with the side languishing in sixth.

However, he is now at the risk of losing his job at the Turkish club following their exit from the Europa League.

Besiktas entered the competition in the preliminary round but were knocked out by Shakhtar Donetsk, who secured a 6-2 aggregate win over them.

Solskjaer’s team were then beaten 2-0 at home, as a result, the players were jeered at the final whistle, and the pressure has since been heaped on the club manager.

Just eight months after taking the job, and signing an 18-month deal, it looks like the former Man United forward could soon be sacked, and former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin is the leading candidate should Solskjaer be sacked according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sahin joined Liverpool on loan in 2021 However, by the time he joined Liverpool in 2012, his confidence had been shaken by his unsuccessful stint at Real Madrid.

Sahin made only 12 appearances for Liverpool before leaving the club.

Sahin was most recently the coach of Borussia Dortmund but could now find himself in the familiar territory of Turkey, where he began his coaching career.

The former Real Madrid man started his managerial career with Antalyaspor in 2021?

He led them to a respectable seventh-place finish before heading to Borussia Dortmund.

Initially working as an assistant, he became head coach in the summer of 2024 but was sacked in January 2025 after a run of poor results.
