Former Liverpool and Southampton star Adam Lallana has announced his retirement at the age of 37 — and for many fans, it’s the end of a football chapter that brought plenty of class, clever feet, and the occasional screamer.
Lallana began his journey in the Southampton academy back in 1999, long before VAR and goal-line tech were in fashion.
He rose through the ranks and helped the Saints climb from League One back to the Premier League, becoming one of their standout players.
After almost 300 games and 60 goals for the club, he made a big move to Liverpool in 2014.
His time at Anfield was filled with both success and struggle.
He played a key role during Liverpool’s transition from contenders to champions, picking up a Premier League winner’s medal in the 2019-20 season, along with honours like the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

After six years at Liverpool, Lallana joined Brighton, where he added over 100 appearances to his name.
In 2024, he returned to Southampton — the place where it all began — for one final run.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lallana wrote: “As I call time on my playing career, I do so with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride.”
He continued, “Southampton… the place where it all started, and fittingly where it ends.”
He also paid tribute to Liverpool, Brighton, and the England national team, for whom he earned 34 caps.
“Liverpool… the chance to represent one of the greatest clubs in the world and win some of the biggest prizes in the game.”
Lallana thanked teammates, coaches, supporters — and most of all, his family — saying, “To everyone who made the journey so special… thank you.”
Lallana’s boots are now hung up, but his legacy as a graceful baller who danced through midfield battles will live on.
