Former Liverpool forward Danny Ings has made a move to Championship side Sheffield United on a free transfer, following his departure from West Ham earlier this summer.

The 33-year-old initially joined Liverpool in 2015 from Burnley for a fee of around $8.8 million (£6.5 million) plus bonuses, after netting an impressive 36 goals across two seasons with the Clarets.

His outstanding form saw him named Championship Player of the Year.



However, Ings' time at Anfield was marred by injury.

While Ings may not have left a lasting legacy at Liverpool, fans will likely be glad to see him given another chance, this time with Sheffield United.

The forward has penned a one-year contract, with the option for extension.

Sheffield United, who narrowly missed out on promotion last season, has had a disappointing start to the current Championship campaign, losing its first three matches and currently sitting at the bottom of the table.

Since his departure from Liverpool in 2018, Ings has turned out for Southampton, Aston Villa, and West Ham.

His move to the Saints for $24 million (£18 million) proved to be his most fruitful stint, netting 25 goals in 42 appearances during his second season.

Liverpool benefited from that deal, with Burnley also getting a slice of the pie through a 20 percent sell-on clause.

Following brief spells at Villa and West Ham that didn't live up to his Southampton performance, Ings is now making a comeback to the Championship after a three-month hiatus without a club.
