Liverpool FC have undergone significant changes across their coaching ranks this summer, with the men’s side seeing a fresh wave of arrivals and departures.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst was appointed as first-team coach alongside new goalkeeping specialist Xavi Valero, replacing the outgoing John Heitinga and Claudio Taffarel.
Meanwhile, goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte left the club to join Thomas Frank’s backroom staff at Tottenham Hotspur.
Amid that flurry of activity on the men’s front, Liverpool FC Women have officially announced their own high-profile addition: Gareth Taylor has been appointed as head coach.

Taylor, 52, brings a wealth of Barclays Women’s Super League experience to Anfield, having led Manchester City Women from 2020 until March of this year.
During his five-year tenure at City, he guided the team to two major domestic trophies – the Women’s FA Cup and the League Cup -and narrowly missed out on the WSL title in 2023–24, finishing as runners-up on goal difference.
Taylor’s managerial journey follows an 18-year playing career, during which he made nearly 600 Football League appearances and scored more than 140 goals.
He also earned 15 caps for Wales.
Before taking charge of City’s women’s side, Taylor spent several years within Manchester City’s men’s academy, working closely with their U18s
Liverpool FC Women’s managing director Andy O’Boyle hailed Taylor as the “outstanding candidate” following an extensive recruitment process.
O’Boyle highlighted Taylor’s proven track record in building “successful, identity-driven teams” and his exceptional ability to elevate individual players.
Speaking to the club’s channels after sealing the deal, Taylor said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed as Liverpool’s new head coach,” said Taylor?
“Everyone in football knows about the history, size and potential of this club, and I am really looking forward to the task ahead.
“Our aim is to create a team that supporters can be proud of, which plays good football and which will hopefully bring success along the way.”
Chad Gribble, who previously served as Taylor’s assistant, will also join the Reds’ coaching team immediately.
Meanwhile, Amber Whiteley, who stepped in as interim head coach after Matt Beard left in February, will continue her role with the club as an assistant coach.
