Liverpool FC earlier this summer confirmed several appointments within Arne Slot’s coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Former Netherlands international Giovanni van Bronckhorst has joined the Premier League champions as an assistant coach following the exit of John Heitinga.
Van Bronckhorst enjoyed a decorated playing career with clubs including Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal, and Barcelona.
He captained the Dutch national team to the 2010 World Cup final and transitioned into coaching after retiring that same year.
He began his coaching journey as an assistant at Feyenoord before taking charge of the Eredivisie side from 2015 to 2019, leading them to a league title in 2016-17 and two KNVB Beker trophies.
He later managed Guangzhou R&F in China, Rangers – guiding them to a Scottish Cup triumph and the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League final – and most recently Turkish club Be?ikta?, whom he left in late 2024.
Meanwhile, Xavi Valero has also returned to Liverpool as the new head of first-team goalkeeping, rejoining the club after a seven-year stint at West Ham United.
The Spaniard first worked at Anfield under Rafael Benítez in 2007 and continued with the former Liverpool boss at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, and Real Madrid.
Colin Stewart has joined Liverpool as the new goalkeeper development and pathway lead.
While the men’s team welcome new additions, Liverpool FC Women are also preparing for a key appointment, with Gareth Taylor set to become their new head coach, according to The Athletic.
Amber Whiteley took interim charge of the team for the remainder of the 2024–25 season after Matt Beard was sacked as head coach in February.
Taylor has been out of work since his dismissal by City before the Continental Cup final in March, with the team sitting fourth in the Women’s Super League.
Appointed in 2020 after nearly a decade in the club’s academy, the Welshman won the FA Cup (2020) and League Cup (2022).
His side narrowly missed the WSL title the previous season but were 12 points behind leaders Chelsea when he was sacked.
Liverpool finished seventh last season.
